Anyone ever made home-made Limoncello. It seems to be hard to find in my area and I had seen a couple recipes for it. I decided to give it a try, have the peels from about 45 lemons steeping in about a gallon of vodka right now.

I'm going to try pretty much the same thing with oranges too.

Bought some cool flip-top bottles and will give most of it away as Christmas presents!

Looking forward to seeing if this turns out well, it's really pretty simple to make.

Let me know how it goes as I'd be interesting in trying.. we've got a lemon tree that puts out thousands of soft-ball sized fruit every year.

That would be more fun I suppose ;)

It seems pretty easy to make so far although I'm making a big batch so it took some time to zest that many lemons and oranges.

Oh and wouldn't you know it...one of the reasons I decided to do this is because I have been unable to buy it from our state controlled liquor stores. Of course now they have several different brands at my local store!!

That's OK, this is more for the experience and to give a nice homemade gift to friends and family!!

I've got an easy way that works well to save zesting time; simply cut the lemons in half and use a juicer to make lemon juice. You then have two half lemon skins left. Juice enough to have enough lemon skins to fill your jar before adding the alcohol. (I freeze the lemon juice in cube trays and then use them whenever I want them for cooking or adding to drinks). I add the lemon skins to one gallon of everclear. After the sugar is added and the process is done I pour into small unique bottles I've saved and give them as gifts.

That does sound easy. Can you shoot me the recipe? The one I found used Vodka and it turned out pretty well but I hear making it with everclear it doesn't end up with the slight bite that this has. I'm pretty happy with how this turned out (although I like the lemon much more than the orange) but would be willing to try something different next time!

    We're all counting on you.

Methinks zest gives it that certain je se ne zest that juice cannot replicate.

I think you have to do it with zest. Scott was just saying instead of zesting the lemons he juices then first and then uses the left over carcass whole.
