Great weather yesterday, four of us got together with our cars at a garage in Waukee and then hoped around to a couple places for food and drinks. We saw a white Lambo on 50th street (I think) in Des Moines getting gas on our way to Saints.

Mark I would have stopped had I seen your car. I only found out when I got to Saints when two of the other drivers asked about seeing your car. Bummer.

I will be driving my Lotus down tonight to do some cleanup on his Diablo from the rally. If you are in the neighborhood, drive by if you are not doing anything around 6.

    Thanks for the invitation, Steve.

I would have certainly enjoyed swinging by and meeting you (for that matter, Russell as well --- he and I have spoken on the phone a few times, but never actually met face to face), but I was tied up this evening. If it's at all possible, Ray and I would really dig paying you a visit up in Ames sometime ---- and, of course we'd love a tour of your collection :)

Years ago, I used to be into the older British cars myself ---- owned several Triumphs and Jags. But, they weren't big enough "money pits", so I moved on to the Italian stuff ---- much more opportunity to get frustrated and toss away larger sums of money --- lol :)

Spotted a blue Aston Martin DB9 in Urbandale on Hickman on Sunday. Also have seen a black Audi R8 on 235 twice now. Got up next to him to get a picture and he floored it. What a car. Apparently there's a white one is West Des Moines too. Also saw a gold Diablo by Jordan Creek in June.

Nope, it is Maroon / Burgundy :)

There is also a Silver Q-porte in my neighborhood. Have you spotted another --- are you sure it isn't a GranTurismo? There is a black GT running around as well.

Sweet. The only Quattroporte I've seen was dark blue or black (couldn't tell it was getting dark). I saw it at the Barnes and Noble on University in West Des Moines. It had Polk County plates. I've never knew there were that many Maserati's running around. Anyone know of a white Bentley Arnage running around ? Someone I know said they thought they saw one in downtown around Halloween.

The black GT is another one of our guys, Brian Cox. He had the car at the Salisbury Concours this year and it is his daily driver.

Then, there might be (2) ---- because the one I am thinking of belongs to one of the (Kum & Go) Krause brothers, Kyle, I believe.

Also, can attest to and have pics of the LM002, Spyker, and Elise in CB. They are on home PC, but I do have one at work of a Rolls Silver Cloud in CB. Here ya go.

p.s. I can also attest to the Enzo in Omaha, herr Finnerty. Still on MSO.

There WAS a Black Q Porte at Car City on Merle Hay just a week ago. I was going to look at it on the way to the ISU / Mizzou game, but it was already gone. I believe it was an '06 with 15k miles for 46,900.

Also, can I get on a pm list for some meets in / around DSM? I've only got a couple old Audis, but it'd be nice to make a shorter drive to see some exotics than the Twin Cities.

Forgot about a couple other Rollers.

Last summer saw a gray (if memory serves) mid 80's Silver Spur at the HyVee on Madison with Pottawattamie county plates. Also a late 70's Silver Spur owned by the dentist who's office is on Bennet near that same HyVee.

The only way a vehicle that old (pushing 6-8 years for the Enzo now) could still be unregistered would be if it has never been sold ---- meaning that it is owned by a Dealership and has never had a private owner. I don't think such cars should count for the record until they have been sold and are actually OWNED by someone in the area.

You should pass your info along to "NNO", and see if he can dig up info on the Enzo to which you refer. At present, he is unaware of any (genuine) Enzo's anywhere near Omaha, so I'm going to lean toward trusting his data (re-posted below).

You raise a valid point, but that is not precisely correct as I understand it. Once the bill of sale is completed, and the dealer signs over title to the purchaser (in this case as it was a cash sale) and not to the lender nor the DMV, then the title simply holds in "limbo" until the owner chooses to do something about it, which could be never, for all they care. Absolutely no plans to drive it, not even to put it on a trailer and show it. It will not happen, not in their lifetime anyway. I've seen it in person, on the ground, and I believe Whisky over in the Nebraska forum posted pics. BTW, I believe the 1990 TR they have is also still on MSO. Never titled, never plated, never driven. Being an avid reader of the DuPont Registry for 21 years now, I have seen plenty of vehicles "new on MSO" numerous times that were DECADES old.

    So we have:
    1. Money exchanged
    2. Bill of sale
    3. Transfer of title
    4. Car on the ground to residents of Omaha

What I calculate here is a real car on the ground within the city limits of Omaha, and a valid sale to boot. ;)

BTW, I LIKE your healthy skepticism! Ever consider the possibility it is one of the 6 unknown in your list?

I bought a car that still had a MSO. I was the second owner, the guy had two of them same color and just used the same plate while driving the car I bought from him. He put 2000 miles on it like that.

So although I was the second owner, legally I am show as the first.

I don't deny it's possible. (not MY list, BTW :)) Carbon does track the "unknowns" as well, but he doesn't report them on his list until they are fully documented as his is a definitive list of FACTS --- not speculation. For, example it is "known" that (2) of the "unknowns" currently reside in Idaho, but they are recent imports, still have European registration, and have not completed the official DOT/EPA import process yet.

The trouble is that any US-held property that the authorities require has a Title or Deed attached (car, boat, home, real estate, etc.) has to be assigned, via title / deed transfer (signed by the current owner and filed with the appropriate agency) to the owner in order to prove legal ownership for purposes of insurance and taxation --- so only a Dealer or a Broker of such properties can hold say, a car, legally and obtain insurance for the asset without doing so (e.g., under "MSO" in your example).

Why a private individual would "possess" a $1M car they can't obtain insurance for is beyond me. But, I suppose one with vast wealth could choose not to care whether he loses $1M in the event of destruction. Because even if the car is never driven and tucked away somewhere, buildings can catch fire, flood, or collapse --- potentially destroying the contents :) Warren Buffett is wealthy enough to do it --- but, he's not stupid enough to do it ;).

Seriously, send NNO a PM about that car ---- if it exists in Omaha (and, I'm not saying it doesn't), he will be able to find some info on it --- no matter what its status.

As there are no Ferrari Dealerships in the state of Nebraska, an Enzo would have to been purchased as a used car and brought in from out-of-state, or as a new (previously unregistered) car from an out-of-state Dealer and then transferred ----- in either case, the Nebraska DMV has to be notified for the car to be in the state LEGALLY.

FTR, if the IRS (and the State Treasurer, via the DMV) found out that one had an Enzo which one hadn't paid the taxes on (can only be done through title transfer), "one" would be in some damn serious legal trouble. It's counter-intuitive that someone with the resources to buy an Enzo would be that foolish and expose themselves to that type of risk.

.........a drug dealer, or other "nefarious" individual, on the other hand......yeah, that I could see.
