Just got my overseas flights booked. Will be at the Christmas party !! See you then if not sooner.
Sorry about my absence on the last drive. If you all miss the 355 Symphony of sound, here's a little treat that I bet none of you have ever seen. It's pretty entertaining, and makes us realize the new hosts of the History Channel's Top Gear have a way to go: http://youtube.com/watch?v=P8YZzGaprtA&NR=1 See you guys on the next drive. The Butcher.
That was so much fun to watch. Thanks Ponch! Clarkson's last line is the best. "The trouble with a pension is...it can't do this." Followed up with a glorious 355 doing rambunctious donuts.
Another classic on the F355 (check out Jeremy Clarkson's Afro!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7nZ6oVcDX4 Enjoy!
I would venture to say a CS or Scud sounds pretty intoxicating under load, as well. The love affair with my F355, has been unconditional. Whenever I haven't driven her for some time, after getting some reacquainting seat time, I find myself falling in love with her, over and over, again. I am truly thankful for where I'm at, as most all of us should be.
Awesome videos SKUSA and Sledge! The First video 355 was running a Capristo. The funny thing about that is the summary states the Capristo is only a Stage 1 exhaust! You can only imagine what a Stage 2 or 3 exhaust sounds like! I wonder what exhaust was on the 355 in the second video on the track. It truly sounded wonderful in the cockpit of the Evo.
I have been receiving some great photos of FOG members from many years back for the Holiday Party. We are going to try and guess who's who so please send me some old photos of yourselves. Baby photos will work as well. I have some great ones already. Please PM if you have any to submit. Thanks.
Of the "modern" Ferraris, the F355 is by far my fav. Love that high pitched scream over-laid with gear whine. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Only the 50's cars can compete IMHO. Victory by Design anyone? I always crank up the speakers for the early cars. http://www.amazon.com/Ferrari-Victory-Design-DVD-Dts/dp/B0007M0NBC
So my family is Mennonite (think Amish), thus pictures are rare. However, my folks were rebels. Before I was born, back in the 60's, Dad had a Toyota - in northern Canada. Not exactly an acceptable brand. He sold it when I was tiny, and bought a used Volvo PV544 - which stranded him, Mom, and me - on the back roads of rural Canada. Not good. So he went back to Toyota. A pickup, right around when they introduced those ridiculous emissions requirements. It was the most gutless thing. Dad and a buddy helped each other build their own campers out of angle iron and sheet wood. Weighed at least a ton. Not good for an anemic Toyota. I recall our one and only road trip in the thing. Let's just say that even as a kid, I recognized the lack of power. Dad quickly realized his error, and went back to the dealer and swapped for a Toyota Crown. A car I learned to grease chassis mounts, ball joint nipple reservoirs, and adjust screw type valve adjustors. That thing was a tank. I bought it from him as a teen, and drove it 290K miles until the frame rusted through (original clutch was still good). Oddly enough, when I was a teen and working in Banff, I discovered car magazines (the town I came from had only Hot Rod). The sound of an Alfa Milano ripping between the lights intrigued me to the point that when the opportunity came again in SoCal to buy a used car, it was that or a Porsche 928. I missed out on a cherry 928, and a Milano came up next. How I love my Milano! So much so that when I did get to drive an F355, my first impression was that of a Milano distilled down to it's most sporty elements. I was immediately at home! To this day driving an F355 is second nature - as I with my Milano. Not really surprising given that the same engineers worked on both at one point or another. So no car pics, but strong love for the brand(s).
Maybe we could get one to give away as a door prize at the FOG holiday party, and sell raffle tix with all proceeds to the Greenbrae police dept. toy drive?
Most kids would have asked "are we there yet?" You're one of the very few people that I know, that can double-declutch properly, and match revs on downshift (and upshift) when there is no clutch. I'll agree with you there. F355's (and Milanos ) rule.
Italiani, Read this article...you may like the 355 even more, my brother: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2009/06/review-ferrari-f355/
