Very cool! Do you have any close up shots? From the pics posted it looks like the standard 2x2 twill weave.

What do they do for UV protection if it runs unwrapped/unpainted? UV rays will break down the epoxy in a standard carbon fiber layup fairly quickly so I'm really interested to know what they will do if they go this route. I know GM spent a great deal of time developing a special UV clear just for this reason for the ZR1.

Wrapping is definitely the future and opens up a fascinating world of creative possibilities.

Any unwrapped parts will be UV coated.

Thanks for the detailed information. I have a little knowledge of carbon/ exotic metal nano technology. The new properties of these nano-materials are truly amazing from insulation of energy waves to electrial conduction to extreme material science profiles.

Adoption of even more advanced break-through materials is going to be a great new chapter for sports cars.

Great job with the P4/5 C - thanks for sharing all the details, right down to the carbon weave!

Not a big fan of unpainted carbon, but this funky checker board weave on the F1 Red Bull is pretty cool.

It depends on the design goals of the part/parts in question. i don't know if this particular Italian firm that's doing the work for Jim is the ATR group(?)...I'm not sure they're still the go to folks over there. But if it is them, they use(used) a combination of non-heated/low pressure curing (Resin Transfer Moulding) and high heat/high pressure cooking via Autoclave. The woven carbon itself that's used on Jim's car is prob from Toray or Hexcel (they are still big players in the global carbon supply) I've been following composites tech for many years now (i have a close friend that worked for CU Boulder and now Ball Aerospace here in town, so we've long had similar interests). Oh, here's an article that i dug up from my archived index from years past. Y'all may or may not find it interesting...i however, love this stuff:)

haha cool 'classic' basket weave:) i think most folks prefer the twill weave that Pagani has made so glamorous over the years. of course, in the end, weave design, the number of strands within woven fabric, etc, is usually chosen because of design goals for that part. but sometimes, technical aspects be damned, a certain weave is chosen simply because it 'looks cool':)

We will finalise this soon but Date of the 24 is firm.

The Team will test at the Ring in December. (Not in P 4/5 C )

We will do a rolling test of P 4/5 C in January.

We will run Tire Tests in February. (Very exciting New Tire News Soon)

We will contest two races at the Ring in April (Which one will be finalized after tire tests)

Likely Unveil at Villa d'Este and then race the 24.

Great progress in the recent updates. It's very nice to be able to see this from start to finish. Good luck with the rest of the build!

Beautiful Place for a beautiful car. Great Choice.

    Pure Class.

Bring Ken Wahl, and leave Clooney at home (he has been known to show up there uninvited--Clooney, that is).

    Napoli-
Have you decided on a color for the wrap?

Saw a nice documentary about the BMW art car. They used a wrap. The artist Jeff Koons designed a aero-inspired multi-colored art car for BMW which was a show-stopper.

I don't know how much more of an expense it would be to have a multicolored wrap for your car. But the effect could be amazing.

RTM doesn't make sense for a just a few pieces. The tooling costs are prohibitively expensive unless it is a production run. A prepreg is probably used instead.
