Makes a nice change to be able to say "Yes!" in a thread like this.

That's the problem with all those fakes.
If you see a GTO in the wild, it should be great experience. Now you just assume it's a fake, only to find out later that it was a real one. :(

but it helps when you know your stuff. i am not sure if i would be able to identify every GTO in the wild, but there are many well known cars (and well known fakes as well).
every time i was at the cavallino classic i saw important Ferrari like GTOs somewhere on the road and there was no doubt they were real.
What a sight - a real GTO or 250 TR in normal traffic!
i remember Bill Noon arriving in 3445GT at the Breakers, wearing a racing-suit and a cowboy-hat, taking his sportsbag from the passenger seat, handing the key to the valet-boy and disappearing into the hotel lobby. That was really cool.

You know, I've driven my 550 on that street. I wonder if the driver of that GTO realises he's on hallowed ground.... :)

Doubly hallowed! My Dino was unloaded for the start of the 2010 TdF in precisely that spot!

One of these days we'll be at the same street at the same time, Julio, to have a drive together. We've been close, but not quite there. :)

I'm sorry but I just can't resist posting this here:

I got a friend to drive my FAKE GTO style special down to Moto Technique for accident repair (insurance job) recently, and Kevin the boss & Kevin the panel beater were both heard to remark that they'd rather have this one than real thing....what's the world coming to??? Just because it has a 600bhp 575 engine seems a poor excuse for such appalling taste....

Hadn't seen your car before but I have to admit that I like it too. I'm sure those guys appreciated not having to up their insurance premiums (and a little extra HP doesn't hurt either). ;)

Here is a short video of this very car arriving in Vichy during this year's Tour de France Auto. You would not believe how fast my heart was beating as I was filming it!

By the way, this car has an interesting detail about it: I hear it's the only GTO with this kind of exterior door handle.

is this the GTO that has had quite a bit of magazine coverage of the restoration as well?

I don't know other than to say that 3987 got a fair amount of coverage when Ralph Lauren did what he did.

There's fairly large picture gallery of it's restoration on the Mototechnique Website. I'm pretty sure it also featured in Octane magazine.
