Nissan GTR vs. 430S

    "Semi-wet conditions."

    Is it a "record" or a record. At what point do you say "Yeah, on the same conditions with official timing, this car beat that car" versus just jumping the gun. It is amazing at the number of cars that have "unofficial" times that vault up there.

    Hell of a car, I am not 100% convinced it is the best thing since sliced bread... yet

    Let's see some chequered flags drop on them. :)

    On what do you base your opinion that the CGT doesn't handle bumps well? My experience is to the contrary. I had a CGT for 8,000 miles over 2 years - it handled fantastically well on bumpy roads at huge speeds. It was also the fastest car that I have ever driven on a full F1 track. I am guessing that one big area of improvement during the last 4 years is tyres. The only available tyres for the CGT at the time let it down IMO. Anyway my GT-R V-Spec will be in hand by October and I will give some first hand opinions then. My 430S arrives in August

    Who told you October? I highly doubt it will be ready by then. They don't even have normal ones available.

    The best solution:

    Nissan sell the name right of the GT-R to Lamboghini.
    Lambo quickly put the bull badge on the hood, rename it whatever, sell it at $170k.
    Nissan gets $85k from the sales, Lambo gets $85k.

    People will put a different tone to the GT-R .... coz it's a Lambo, not a Nissan

    I think what is important is WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE THE 430 go faster than the Nissan GTR, there is no point talking about which one cost more or which one gets more attention.. the POINT IS the GTR is FAST. and we need to do something about it.... so is there any thing like a turbo charger or NOS that we can put in the 430? I need to know fast... down with the GTR.

    I can't believe this thread is still going......


    F430 is the poster child for a modern exotic car, pure sex, snap heads, sounds crazy, F1 technology, real estate price tag. It is the most desirable car on the road today.


    GT-R is a grand tourer with 4 seats (2+2), space age technology that came from a Playstation 3, styling design by possibly Japanese androids, price tag of a German saloon, and handles very well. It's the Godzilla of modern sport cars.


    There is simply no comparison. Oh wait, the GT-R might be faster on the track.... what? oh snap~ Ferrari better get their acts together for the F430 replacement. There is no excuse that a V6 4 seater can be faster than a Ferraro - even if the Nissan is THAT ugly.

    Did you see from my profile that I live in HK. We get our cars directly from Japan where I am very high on the list. We have had GT-R's on the road in HK already since Dec 07

    Not mine, but Walter Rohrl said so. He said that since the GT2 was rear engined, shorter wheelbase the car could get on the throttle sooner, the GT2 in more nimble around the corners at the Nurburgring. The longer wheelbase and mid engine setup on the CGT made it little slower than the GT2. How come you didn't know this information?

    Had to come back, congratulations on the 430S.

    Your way of thinking is under seige by the astounding performance of the GTR at 1/3-1/2 the cost of a 430S or 599. The 'jury' is simply stunned by the all-round, astonishing performance of the GT-R, on ALL dimensions (read the stats in EVO, CAR, CAR & DRIVER, ROAD & TRACK). This post continues because no one saw this coming to this astounding degree, whereas, for example, the excellent 430S is a simple and expected extension of the excellent 430. Those residing within the long-programmed Ferrari cocoon may take time, maybe years, to take notice, but my hunch is the cocoon is getting rapidily thinner and that willingness to join -- at the exhorbitant price -- is beginning to wane.

    The possibility of the GTR faster on the track than a 430S? What track?

    I'm safe to say that the 430S has nothing to worry about.

    If your photo signature resembles your real self, even slightly, I'll agree with you 100%. Your question, however, 'what track' is a good one. Maybe we'll have to average out, or 'weight' the performance on several tracks between the GTR and 430S -- if such data is ever forthcoming -- to determine the grand champs 2008/09. That the GTR is even a possible contender is astounding, at least to me. Moreover, my understanding is the GTR is just a hair faster than Enzo times on a few tracks, in other words the same thing I've heard about the 430S. No more peek-a-boo for me; its wait-and-see time.

    What does your comment have to do about bumps? Of course a 997 GT2 is a step up from a CGT - 4 years more of electronics. Exactly the same as 430S vs. Enzo.

    Sorry the GT2 isn't a step up, in most tracks including ones with long straights the CGT will easily beat a GT2. The bumps in the Nurburgring is a BIG issue on why the GT2 lapped quicker.

    Have a hard time following your train of thought. You say the GT2 is more nimble around corners, can get on the throttle sooner and CGT is no good on bumps. Based on my first hand experiences I repeat CGT is fantastic on bumps and I have no doubt that CGT is more nimble on corners as it has fantastic balance. As to gassing out of corners I found my CGT to still be superior to my 997 GT3RS. I do not have a GT2. I was on the track with my CGT with a professional driver who has helped me in Formula. He is a Cup champion, LeMans racer... Of course he is not Walter but I do have some first hand reference points

    I'm not going to argue with you because I have zero time on either CGT or GT2, so I will not even try to tell you anything more than what I read. It's not that the CGT is not good on bumps, the point is that at the Nurburgring the GT2 did better because it can handle or perform at the Nurburgring better than the CGT. I bet that on most tracks and specially ones with long straights the CGT will be faster than the GT2. I'm not saying that the GT2 will best the CGT as a faster track car, but then again it might just be on some, like the fact of the Nurburgring. I hope that I'm not confusing you, the bright side is that you can afford these cars and can find out within your own skills what car works best for you on different tracks.

    My honest opinion is... unless you have driven the cars yourself its going to be very difficult to judge based on other peoples opinions. If not, where is the credibility of ones judgement... it will be based on a magazine article whose journalist has been "bought" by the manufacturer.

    Personally, I prefer the GTR over the F430 in terms of performance. But I do enjoy both cars for their own characteristics.

    Reading this thread is truly engrossing.

    I own neither a Ferrari nor a GTR, but I'd like to make some purely psychological observations.

    I have rarely seen the tail wag the dog any harder than it has in this thread. It seems like most of the hardcore Ferrari guys simply refuse to give up, and by sheer doxastic inertia, will not admit that; in every objectively quantifiable measure, except for price, the GTR is substantially superior to an F430.. And the one it does not exceed is the one in which it is to it's great advantage not to do so.

    If the F430 DID have a faster 0-60 or other objective performance advantage, these same folks would make that the frontline argument and the day is won, game over. Then the "it's a lifestyle," "they're rolling art" type of statements would be the "postgame interviews" because the GTR clearly loses. In the case of the GTR, by substantially exceeding the performance of the F430 and favorably comparing with almost any supercar, these subjective arguments become the front bumper of the battle wagon by necessity. This thread isn't happening by accident or because it's a four seat Datsun family ride, it's because it's a supercar and raises the entire bar of automotive performance and sophistication. How now brown cow? Revert to the area of greatest potential benefit. After all, this is a Ferrari forum and the deep seated emotional evocations become the battle cry in order to at least have something to say but avoiding the inevitable. Hitler refused to admit defeat even as the Russian mortars were rattling his coffee cup off the table as he nestled desparately in the "furher bunker." That bunker was destroyed just as quickly as others, no matter what they called it, but the Russians were particularly motivated for that one.

    Cars do not lifestyle, they do not resell themselves or worry about depreciation, they do not aesthetate, they do not passion, they do not notice chicks or clicking cameras, they do not think themselves or other cars to be ugly. They do one thing, they car. They automotivate. They exist as inanimate objects in a specified physical dimensionality that humans have stipulated since around 1886 in Carl Benz's workshop.

    There are surely GTR elitists of exactly the same stripe as there are here on these pages and the roles could be precisely reversed for the most part, but not completely, and here's why. The universe of Ferrari enthusiasm and passion on the part of the owners and enthusiasts of these cars is postively in another universe that extends well beyond even the arena of automotive enthusiasm. That's the one thing that is just as, if not moreso, clear as the performance difference in the cars. Singularly unique, beyond question. Nissan only wishes it had fiery eyed legions of enthusiast that sleep in the garage or paint the Nissan logo on their garage floor! I love this forum.
