Christmas will come a bit early this year! Yesterday My wife and I paid a visit to the Wilson Audio HQ to see our new system we had spec'd several months ago. We were met by founders David & Sheryl lee Wilson who gave us an amazing tour of their manufacturing facility. I'm no Audiophile, my knowledge of the audio world is limited to an I-Pod and headphones! However the depth of knowledge David Wilson possesses and his ability to convey it in terms that a simpleton such as I could understand was simply amazing! Their hands on approach and attention to detail is simply amazing, as you will see in these photos! David is an avid Ferrari collector and his passion for the Ferrari brand carries over into Wilson's manufacturing process, its akin to visiting the Ferrari Factory, Simply Amazing! Why did we choose Wilson Audio and not spring for a Radio Shack special? Well that's another story! You see, my wife is partially deaf unable to hear in stereo. She is unable to differentiate dialogue over background noise, that is until her first experience with Wilson Audio, an experience which brought tears to our eyes! For the first time in her life she could sit through a movie and follow the dialogue during an action scene or listen to music and actually hear the lyrics over the music! We asked David to explain this phenomenon to us! "How is it that she is able to differentiate sound?" David explained that unlike other speakers what "Splash" sound towards the listener like a spotlight on a crowd, Wilson speakers focus the sound so accurately it is like targeting your ear with a laser pointer! Because of this accuracy sound distortion is virtually eliminated allowing an experience which, in my opinion, is nothing short of 'Reality' ! Here are some photos of our visit, more to come we hope to pick up our new babies soon! The experience as you will see is just as exciting as taking delivery of a shinny new Ferrari! Enjoy! David showing us the line up! Here are some unfinished models, then we were off to see the finished ones. Its an amazing process how these are made! Ill post more shots soon. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dave is awesome. Back when I was in high school I saw a silver 550 Maranello in the pharmacy parking lot with the license plate "prancer". I stopped to gawk at the car, turns out it was Dave. I think he had just upgraded from his old 355. Very cool experience, especially for Brandy.
Dave showing us the process, you see the casing being made and the paint process. The finish on a Wilson Audio speaker is far superior then the majority of new Ferrari's I have seen! David is a true enthusiast and perfectionist! The slightest blemish or scratch results in a QC FAIL! I think we may need to get some 3M for our babies! lol More pix to come... Wow looks like a great experience! David is really a nice guy. During the ALMS race at MMP I was able to talk to him a little while about his cars, particularly the Scuderia. I first saw it online and then in person at Steve Harris Imports sitting on the showroom floor. It is painted my favorite color (Rosso Dino). David was kind of enough to answer a few questions about it and his other cars. Simon from Risi Competizione was there as well and the three of us were able to talk all things Ferrari. What a great time! After a few minutes, David turned to me and asked if I wanted to sit it in and well: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not just any Scud, he scored a Dino Rosso scud (I think that's the color). Its an amazing color! Going to pick up our speakers now!!! WOOT WOOT!!
Yup! Here's just a couple more: First is from ALMS and the Second is from outside Steve Harris when it was on the showroom floor: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow Stack, congrats! They are one of the nicest couples I've ever met. I'm still amazed at the difference in sound from the speakers they had at the FChallenge. Pretty cool to see some of the process!
Just picked em up! Not literally since they weigh at least 180lbs each!! Gonna need a forklift to get these bad boys into our room!
180lbs each? I guess you didn't splurge on the Alexandria's. (800 lbs each from memory). I've been a Wilson Audio fan since I auditioned them in Denver. I'd love to visit the factory one day. I have an entire room in my new "home" that will be dedicated to them. GT
Alexandria's are the ENZO of loudspeakers, anyone with the means (and we are talking a budget in the range of a couple scuds for a set up like this!) will not regret the choice! Toss in a "Thors Hammer" tuck it behind a "Polaris" and you have one hell of a theater room! And YES, That's the infamous "Around The World P4" sitting on the HUD. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You should reconsider that house in my parent's neighborhood, that way I could come over for movie nights.
Was just at that crazy house again pondering the possibilities!! Anyway, it will take a few years to got our system to this point! Crestron
More photos... David showing us just how awesome the finish is! Better then a Ferrari automotive paint job! Every speaker is wrapped in a protective covering to prevent damage to the finish during shipping and installation ! (A type of 3M for speakers!) David Wison showing us how each component is tested and broken in to assure optimal performance before being sent to the client. The shipping bay filled with Christmas Joy ready to for pickup! A photo of a happy and proud Wilson Audio customer, Sean Connery! Wilson has a gallery filled with world famous composers, singers, actors and celebrities who proudly enjoy their Wilson Audio loudspeakers! Unfortunately I did not make the cut, they will hang my photo in the bathroom Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very cool, I know three other guys that have factories down by Wilson Audio. I doubt Sean Connery has any of their products though
Thought I would wrap this story up with a shot of the Wilson Audio Sophia setup at the house. Just need to "Spike" em and we are set! Cheers & Happy New Year!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wilson makes the best loudspeakers in the world. Good choice on the Sophias, it was going to be my recommendation in reading through the entire topic. So the Grand Slamm's are no longer the biggest? They are called alexandria's now? Hmm... Been awhile since Ive built any home theatres. Very cool topic. Nice setup those look to be in the proper location. What kind of power are you using? You using any line conditioners or any dedicated outlets to keep undesirable noise out?
No line conditioners or dedicated outlets (yet). The nice thing about the Sophia is that we can "Grow" into the system. For now, and I know this sounds crazy, we will just hook em up to the iPod.
