Does anyone know what the codes after the P400 refer to?
Why do you describe #3015 as a "discovered car" ? I'ts a well known Miura here in France - featured in the french Magazine Retroviseur some years ago (FYI : Pictures shot by the well-known french photograph/artsist called "DINGO") and stored from years in the workshop of a car restorer in the western Paris area... The numbering system seems to be totally random, i.e. there does not appear to be any pattern of numbering in relation to engine and chassis numbers, which logically, one might expect. Seems that engines were just assigned to chassis as and when needed and in no particular order!
You get the idea, but I wouldn't say it was "totally" random, especially considering the progression of variants, but essentially you are correct. Engines were assigned when the car was paid for by the concessionaire, and some cars got paid for out-of-sequence.
The same question crossed my mind.. I can tell you 3015's chassis ID plate does not have original stamping on it.
Yes, it is for everybody else... excepted you apparently... why have you never shared your precious & evident information ? Too easy to say it is not... now you make the relation with the VIN and the magazine... Kevin gave me also another article link from Sport Auto. It is... because untill today for instance nobody was able to tell me about since I'm on this board since 2007, 4 years...even Joe had no clue about it... or ILR never been able to provide more informations than what is written. I'm searching at this car for 10 years, inquired everywhere... #3015 is discovered now even if it was featured 10 and 17 years ago... None were able to told about before, even you !!!
guys, as interested as i am on the VIN plate...can we forget about it for a moment? Olivier, did you just bought an early P400? that is fantastic! one of most beautiful cars ever you should post some pics!!!!
Here it is... original 16.675 km fully documented with invoices clear history since delivery. I have also 1st owner claim procedure to factory because of terrific oil consumption : 1 litre/100 km done... the file is complete with factory instructions to SOCARIA Belgian importer to fix this... Engine has been rebuilt to my knowledge 3x already and needs to be rebuilt now before I'll take delivery ! Very nice & original (not to mention irreplaceable) interior with fantastic Grigio Skai and unique 'basket-weave' seat inserts. Make sure you preserve this! So many Miuras have had perfectly nice interiors ripped out and thrown away only to be replaced with something that doesn't even look like a Miura interior! Here is another P400 with basket-weave seat inserts in Senape Skai.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Trust me, it will be preserved as close to "original shape" and some mistakes need to be corrected for the best of its originality !!!
Is #1021 the oldest survivor recorded P400 ? Then, how many survivors located worldwide for the 1st 125x Miura produced ?
Good to know it is the 13th survivor in production chronology ! What is more interesting to my personnal interest : #3015 is the 1st ever Miura to have been raced officialy in the '60s...
Well, as I said, "at least" 12 cars prior survive, because that's all I have in my Registro. There are likely more. Remember, your is the 24th car built, and it would not surprise if there were say, 20 cars surviving with 4 destroyed. That sounds like a realistic ratio, but the truth is, we shall never know exactly.. its only an estimate.
