I've always hated my heating system & should probably have it replaced w/ the AC. I'm on a mission now to see how long I can go without heat. It's in the 50s in the house right now. Not so bad except for showering. I like the thermal underwear w/ the checkered pattern I'm currently wearing to sleep in. Both Fruit & Wickers are good. All the cats are wanting under the covers in the night. Just seeing how far I can go without being miserable. You?

I don't like to be cold at all, but I can't stand a heater turned up too high because then I get a headache and have trouble breathing. But no heat? No way!

Never use my heater and don't have AC here. To be fair I have a large sun room that warms up naturally so I open the door and it warms the place up during the day. It's been dropping down into the '40's and '50's at night lately. Close to the beach so don't need AC. Mostly throw on something warm and on occasion will use a space heater in the office and turn on the bathroom heater when taking a shower.

My guess is that I would make it a day at most without a heater this time of year in NH. Me being cold is not the issue as I can layer my clothing. The real problem is that the pipes in my apartment will freeze causing a lot of damage.

You mean, people actually have to "heat" their homes? Weird.

I have woken up in the shack, actually it's atleast a 50yr old pile of kindling, being in the low 40's lately even with my supersonic heater at full power. God I miss civilization and central air/heat.

We had a blizzard last winter and I had no power (heat) for 3 days. I thought it was awesome, except my iguana wasn't too happy about it.

I like sleeping cold, but I cannot sleep worth a crap in pants and a shirt. I'm always sleeping in boxers only.

No matter how cold it is outside my fan is always on while I sleep. It has to be somewhat comfortable when I get up in the morning though. 50 degrees is too cold in the house.

Why would anyone allow a cat in the house let alone under the covers.

Due to weird wiring and plumbing, in the apartment I have rented for the last 14 years, I have not had heat in my bedroom all that time. My landlord converted a building that was a store on the first floor and living quarters upstairs into four apartments. We were the first tenants in the whole building and moved in in Aug so didn't realize about the heat. The apartment across the hall was rented next and for some reason my radiator was hooked up to their heat, So the pipes into my apartment got blocked off, and no more heat in my bedroom. Rest of the apartment is heated so that's alright. It was a good thing my sister and I chose the bedrooms we did. The cold doesn't bother me at all. I have been known to go outside and shovel out my car in bare feet. The only thing I have to do is keep my door shut so the cold doesn't spread thru the apartment. So in answer to your original question 14 years.

Agree with Glassman, no cat for me. If you are really cold get a small, stocky dog and put it next ot you. My old beagle gave off heat like a minature heat lamp.

seeing as how it has not gotten over 30 here in more than a week and is often under 20 I think I could last a few hours without heat.

Lasko model 755320 Ceramic tower space heater w/:
    1500watts
    Oscillation
    Digital controls

The thing heated my entire living room w/ cathedral rise to 60+ deg from low 50s in a couple hours! 60 is all I need. This thing is a powerhouse!

No heat for me after two or three days the pipes would freeze and the toilet water would freeze and then when it warms up it wouldn't be pretty.
