the GT is a great car: probably my fav. modern car in the "affordable" category (the zonda is even nicer...but a bit too expensive .... ) it is also a bit faster than a diablo stock (as it should, being so much newer and having such a big supercharged engine) and MUCH MUCH more faster modded (that is easy to do on a GT) as for the better looking than a diablo...well that is questionable!

The Ford GT looks great, been then you like under the hood and see something out of the Ford Lightning and watch the Saleen S7s run around with aluminum block 427s with an FIA record to die for and it sours. I think Diablo prices will go up on the RWD models, great sound and balance, but ever notice the back tires on the Diablo are the same dimensions as the front tires on the S7R, not exactly ideal either.
0-60 mph in 2.7s... repeated about 27 times earlier that day 1/4 in the mid 10's if memory serves. Both are Heffner TT cars both with stock internals. It was a HUGE pain in the ass to get both cars in the building, and some VERY clever maneuvering. Lots of burnt clutch. Although, getting the GT in there was harder due to the lack of a hydraulic suspension lift up front like the G has. 19psi is my guess... is it a Gen 2 3.4L whipple?
In a weird way I kind of see the GT as sort of a spirtual successor to not only the GT40, but also the Pantera. Same issues with the Pantera in that on the plus side, it is relatively inexpensive to make insane horsepower from the Ford engine. Then on the minus side, some kind of snobby types might thumb their noses at the Ford power plant since they've seen in in tens of thousands of Mustangs, Cougars, etc. Imo popping the hood to show an exotic Lambo or Ferrari 12 is more exciting than a Ford V8. So I don't show off the Pantera engine in a crowd of Lambos, but love to around muscle car guys.
Thank you Yes, Gen 2 Whipple and it's the 23 psi pulley (3.0") I have the 19 (3.5") as well but run the good gas so no issues. The car is also running custom axles (Millen), Stainless works exhaust, Spec clutch additional trans cooling and so on. It's quite capable but not as beastly as the TT cars.
It might look paradoxal that a Ford GT keeps its value although its relatively large production number compared to the Lamborghini, but I believe that it can be easily explained by the fact that Ford, with only one exotic offer, do not suffer from internal competition like Ferrari and Lamborghini do. With only one desirale model it is easier to keep its desirability! We must not forget that the release of a new Lamborghini in the market is a major factor, among many others, explaining depreciation of the previous Lamborghini models! And conversely, earlier models also contribute to accelerate depreciation of second hand current models! When you try to sell a Gallardo or a Murciélago, you can also end up with no sale because the potential buyer might prefer to put his money on a used Diablo, Countach or Miura etc. And the converse is also true!!! Diablo versus Ford GT, it reminds me when I went for a test drive of an early 2wd Diablo, on the highway when the owner upshifted in fifth gear we heard a big metalic clunk through the central console and were forced to stop the car on the side of the road waiting for a flatbed towing truck. Meanwhile a few Police cars joined the party, one policeman talked to owner who explained the situation and then after he came to me and said with a low voice: ''You really want to buy this car? You shouldn't, they are always broken, I'd go for a Ford GT.'' I was laughing from inside!
Not quite. The first 283 GTs built were recalled, after Ford discovered a cracked front control arm on one of the 111 GTs that had so far been delivered at that time. The issue was resolved, completed cars updated and production continued.
Not quite. One of the pre-production cars had partial failure at well over 100,000 miles. The supplier didn't make the controller arm to the same spec Ford demanded. It still cost Ford tremendously. I'm not so sure it was 22k per vehicle... Don't forget the speedy-sleeve fix either Oddly, people who have a car that had the controller arm recall performed love it since the replacement part is 100% billet. A thing of beauty There were a number of non-recalled issues on early 2005 models that were not publicized as well.

A cracked control arm can happen to any car, the same as a control arm failure , heck I had a lower control arm failure on a Porsche 928 back in the day , just about lost my drivers side front wheel on a entrance ramp , ( not good ), A billet control sounds good if its beefy enough, I replaced the controls on my 98 Diablo , they are thin steel tubes, it would not take much to bend them , As far as the threads goes , If you want a Ford exotic and can afford a GT then the rest is easy , If you want to hear that sound only a Lamborghini 12 cyl makes, the mechanical music that turns the heads of people that are not even into cars and mechanical stuff, well then you have to find a Lambo that with some luck will not blow to pieces when you put it in 5 th gear. ( I think there are a few out there that fit the bill .) I say go with the Lamborghini then later if you have some extra dough , obtain the Ford GT ( which by the way is one of my favorite cars ) ,
I met a guy who crashed his due to control arm failure. He was in pretty bad shape after crash and had at least 1 surgery. F40s also had control arm issues so its not just a Ford thing
Dear Lamborghinisti, Well...I don't know the "specs" and don't care. That's not what an exotic car is all about. My neighbor has two GT 40's ...one red with a white stripe and a black one. I look at the car and go...umm...OK....it's "nice" It's just not "in your face" like a Diablo. While the Ford is faster, more hp bla bla bla....it's just a fast car...not an exotic. ...and it's stil a F O R D... If I cared about resale or investor value, I wouldn't drive my Diablo VT Roadster as a daily driver and rack up the miles like I do. Does it cost more to maintain than the Ford? Yes....so? If you are worried about slight shades of grey of maintenance cost....buy a Honda or better yet, a Hyundai...I hear they have a great warranty. I just go by what makes me go OMG ! .....and that's a Diablo.......and a VT Roadster at that nothing else. Well, I do like the raw craziness of a F 40 but it doesn't have.....the "doors" !
