Just had 2 teeth primed for crowns & now am in constant pain. Never had pain w/ the 2 but my dentist advised I get crowns due to age of original fillings. Now I’m thinking WTF did I do? Dentist sanded down temps yesterday & said to see how it goes. Orajel is a joke as is acetaminophen. Suggestions for making it through the weekend? Never had a real toothache before.

Not that I am an expert, but ibuprofen ( NSAIDS) 600-800 mg 3X day works well. If not call and ask him to phone in some vicodin to get you through the weekend. Also see if he can call lab and have permanent crowns rushed through for you but it might be a good idea to have them cemented with a temporary cement to make sure that these teeth are not going to need root canal therapy first.
Good chance he left them high ( the temporaries touched when you closed before the rest of your teeth. This can cause basically like a bruise between the roots of the teeth and the socket). After a few days of biting, this can get very sore. It sounds like he took away some of the temporary crowns so that they do not touch when you bite- this will allow the bruise to heal but will take a few days. You want to make sure things are getting better every day- not worse. If getting worse, these teeth might need root canals.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

Sounds like the real deal! Ice has always been my friend but this somehow doesn't feel the same thing to try on my jaw. Jees, what did people do before barber/surgeons?

    need more info.
-are the teeth thermally sensitive, ie sensitive to hot or cold?
    -sensitivity to biting?
    -throbbing at night?
-spontaneously sensitive, meaning nothing elicits the pain?
    -do you feel swollen?
    -when were the teeth prepped?

When I was teething as a baby and my gums were hurting, my mom purportedly would dip her finger in a bottle of Metaxa and rub her finger on my gums. I imagine an adult-sized portion would help your particular predicament.

constant pain and throbbing at night is indicative of nerve inflammation. may be reversible but probably irreversible nerve damage. ask your dds for a referral to an endodontist(root canal specialist) for a consultation. dds can also try to remake and cement the temps with a cement containing eugenol. it is soothing to nerves. sensitivity to cold is indicative of a poor fitting temp. of course i'm diagnosing this over the internet, which is a huge disadvantage. good luck

I'm feeling it, thinking a crack has been opened or something. BTW, my endodontist drives a Porsche 911 Turbo. The Porsche is wide body w/ the rear being all flared out like an IMSA race car. 0-60 in 3. something seconds. We talk cars while I'm drilled.
Nothing I do seems to help the pain. Thanks for your input. Need morphine I think...

No , he does not make near enough. Imagine, being single , sitting at a bar. An attractive woman walks up, sits down, conversation starts. "So what do you do for a living?"
"Well, I am an endodontist, a dentist that specializes in root canals".
She runs for the door until she sees his 458 valeted at front door.
Just kidding, one of my best friends is an endo here is Dallas. She raced Ferrari World Challenge when it was in the 355s then went to Porsche, the Viper and lately some kind of Dodge.

Ok, it's a couple days before Christmas & I just had another "emergency" visit to my dentist. This time he removed the temp & re-cemented. Now the pain is worse than ever – sharp nerve type all the time. Can’t see how I’m going to make it through Christmas. What narcotic exactly should I ask for when I call my dentist - again? Am trying tequila as we speak.

I recommend a good bottle of peter michael and an opioid based painkiller. Just don't take too many or you'll die.

Sounds like an irreversible pulpitis at this point. I would ask for a referral to a local endodontist today. He can do a pulpotomy ( take the top part of the nerve out) and place some medication inside of the tooth that will stop the pain almost immediately. A good endodontist can do this in 10 minutes.

    Don't neglect the Bourbon though...

A few Godfathers with Knob Creek tend to mend anything, as far as I've experienced.

Jack's and Seven has worked for me in the past. Be sure to swill around the affected area before dilution.
