    Hi.
I have an '81 Euro 911SC Targa (GP White) that needs a repaint. I need someone that can spray single stage and achieve the factory orange peel. Thanks in advance for any suggestions in the NY/NJ/PA/CT area.

If the car is a keeper, give John Paterek a call at Paterek Brothers in Chatham, NJ.

I've had it for 24 years, and intend to keep it. John Paterek wanted $20K w/ me doing the disassembly/reassembly. Looking to spend $8K or so...

Why do you want the factory orange peel if you are going thru the trouble of a high end repaint?

I'm still on the fence re: two stage or single base coat. The decision, to a certain extent, may depend on which shop I choose. I prefer to keep the car as close to the factory look as possible.

$20K seems absurd, can anyone offer insight to why it would be so much?

    200 hours @ $100 per.

I'm not even looking to go to bare metal. Just want the old paint taken down to the factory primer to preserve the factory galvanizing.

Removal/reinstallation of the Targa rear glass is a pain, but its only a days worth of work.

I just want a competent respray, not an over-restored look...

I have some leads here in NJ: Bodymotion in Ocean and Foreign Specialties in Manville.

Try Rich @ R.O.C.S. Auto in Bellville N.J. 973-844-1274 ... tell him "onboost" down DC/MD area sent you..

You can also try Automobile Associates in Canton, Ct 860.693.0278..

I would opt for a base coat/clear coat system.. and let the make the clear coat "orange peely" if you have to have that.

    Regards,

Tried Automobile Associates; they quoted $17K...

    Will check out R.O.C.S.

Yes, I was considering that approach; putting the "peel" in the clear coat. My understanding from speaking with various shops is that the base coat/clear coat method is easier to deal with when chips/rash occurs down the road.

    Thanks.

Bodymotion isn't terrible. I've had them do some minor paint work in a couple of 911s.

I would also consider Bob Caruso in Lakewood, NJ.
