I'm not sure what is happening to me but I have decided to sell my BMW e46 M3 convertible (the best all round car I have ever owned) to buy a 1970's Fiat 124 spyder....reason being I long for more connection with my day to day transport (in the same way I get with my 348 GTCompetizione) and I only travel about 5000km's per year, no more than about 15km's per day, so I'm thinking....more connection, more emotion....just more......

My solution? A 1970's Fiat 124Syder..........am I mad or do I have this right?

A beautiful classic design. If I recall correctly the USA spec cars were problematic. The problems may have been mostly electrical. That could be a fun car, right color too! I wish you the best with your decision...

ive had them and enjoyed driving them. The dual cam engine really does have more power than most think or at least what you are lead to believe on paper. They are fun to drive and have that unmistakable italian car sound. They drive much better than what most would think

Well that is a nice spider to have! I have an 81 Spider. Original owner. Almost every single time I drive it (like, for instance, today) someone compliments it. They owned one, their dad/brother/sister had one, they always wanted one, etc. It's like having a puppy, everyone is attracted to it.

That aside, it would make a good driver if you either in a climate that doesn't call for a/c or are having a good unit installed.

    Enjoy!

Fun little car. Be sure to replace the timing belts at the proper interval.

...on a side note, if you haven't already acquired your spyder (not sure if the photo is actually your car), but Alfa Spider's are awfully full of Italian spirit and charm too!

If that is your car already - POST MORE PICS!!! I personally like the little tittie/bumperettes - as I had a '74 white/red early in my car years and absolutely loved it with just that look!

I was the original purchaser of a 73 124, drove it around for 32 years and it never saw a tow truck and never left me stranded. After I got my FIAT Dino, I parked my 124 and a few years later I sold the 124, its a great car.

I drove my 79 Spider to check out this particular 308, which I ended up buying 7 years ago.

Subsequently had to sell the Spider to make room in the garage for the 308.

Kept the X1/9, though. I have this thing for mid-engined cars.

Would love to add another X1/9 to the collection having sold mine years ago. I'm actually inquiring about a small-bumper '74 model currently.

Good choice, great little convertibles, in standard form unbelievably comfortable for their size and still very sporty.
    I have a Euro CS1 with a 2000cc and I'm loving it.

Long distances is a pain though, drove to Le Mans two years ago to an event there (Le Mans Classique 2008, look it up on Youtube, it's nice), a 1400km drive over the course of one weekend. Two years ago and my ears still hurt.

Edit: this one's nice, still remember this lineup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af9X0Y_EBoI&feature=related

You will probably find it too cramped, noisy, rattly and slow compared to an E46 M3. But you'll still like it and that's when you find two cars in your garage instead of one.

Of course this never happened to me, just other people I know... ;-)

Lovey car... and a daily driver! Thats a proper petrol head!

I've just bought a 71 alfa spider to use as my daily in summer! I missed the connection from a modern car!
