If they do a shooting brake then potential customers will fall into two camps: those who "get it" and like the design, and those don't and who will go elsewhere. I'm not in position to buy the car, but I'd fall into the second camp if they don't really get it right. Then again, Ferrari has gone for the controversy before (Testarossa anyone?) and come out fine.

I guess they can always do a reverse-van den Brink and make a coupe variant, which may be a replacement if the shooting-brake fails or offered as a second model. It could be designed from the beginning in both formats - like they do with convertibles.

In any case, they're doing a pretty good job keeping the new design under wraps, escpecially if it's so close to being previewed.

Do you have any sketches of the possible look based off what you've seen?

I've always liked the 612. I look forward to the next version :)

Interesting comments from Luca about 612 replacement:

"We will continue with one new model a year, and variations on our existing range. What we have done with names is significant too. Scaglietti can in future be a brand like Dino. Scaglietti is not for only one model. It’s been an important name in the past, it’s an appropriate name for a 12-cylinder."

"Of course we are thinking of a new one, but this is not a current project. The Scaglietti is the least young car in our range: so we are thinking of something in the future. When will be the right time to do something different in terms of design and characteristics? It’s not today or tomorrow."

I have some ideas, but we've really not seen anything except for the couple of shots of the heavily camo'd prototype.

What about the people that were invited to the model preview - did it happen yet? Any comments?

I thought you might enjoy that.

So, as soon as we see pics of the shooting-brake version, we expect to see your sketches for a coupe version ;)

My theory that I hope comes true. I hope this is not the 612 replacement but a new entry level Ferrari. Think hot hatch very small with a 4 cylinder, this car is a couple years off and Ferrari knew 4 cylinders were coming to F1. This vehicle will have a new 4 cylinder turbo making 350 or so HP, weighs a little more than an Elise/Exige. This get's Ferrari around the new gas mileage standards that are coming.

I would love something like that for a daily driver, small, light, powerful, fun to drive, gets 25+ mpg city with F car styling and name, avail both with manual gated or dual clutch transmission.

    I can dream can't I?

Ferrari doesn't have to worry about the gas mileage restrictions. Why do you think Fiat is bringing over the 500?

Ferrari will never(at least for the next 5-10 years) build a 100k$ car. Maybe and just maybe a 6 cylinder car.

Ya never know, especially with them about to begin making 4 cylinder race cars. It would be nice to see the F1 tech trickle down to a very light car with a 4 cylinder.

I was presented the car this past week at the factory. Looks fantastic in the flesh. Size is same as 612. Interior roomy with excellent finishing and many new touches. Very comfortable in back as well. A true 2+2. And with the 4x4 and new transmission, this is one Ferrari I can't wait to take delivery of and drive day in and day out!

    Is it a shootingbreak-type bodywork?

Great info. What would you say it resembles, past or present? And, any idea on build and delivery dates?

    Thanks,
