Your neighbour has 2 GT40s; those cars are worth millions each.....WOW!!!! Any pics?

That's almost as amazing as having 2 real 63' Corvette Grand Sports. I wonder if anyone does?

The most recent Ford GTs don't even come close. Pics please, it's very rare that you'll see a real Ford GT40, much less 2 in the same garage unless they're replicas!

It takes a lot to impress me but you (or should I say your neighbour) just did! :)

I assume you mean Kurt? He's a great guy and I've been the car's caretaker for the last 2 years or so.

Don't even come close to what? The GT is a modern version with modern technology and would easily surpass the old GT on the racetrack. When people say the new GT doesn't compare with the original, one wonders what is in the pipe they are smoking.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

Sorry Darolls, I meant the new one. I thought it was called a GT 40 as well. Is it just called a Ford GT? I really don't know much about other cars out there.

    He's a car guy...he also has a burnt orange Porsche 911( latest...whatever it's called ) a new burnt orange corvette and the two Ford ...GT's?...or GT40's?

He really likes the Diablo and my Testarossa but he doesn't like working on them. He's in his late 60's tells me all the time...."I just want to drive it"...not work on it, not wash it or vacume it.

I thought so, many think the Ford GT is named the GT40 but it isn't.....different cars but they look-alike.

Glad to hear your neighbour is an 'Old Fart' like me. I used to like working on my cars etc. etc. etc., but now I'd rather pay someone.

In my day, I could sit in the engine compartment of my 62' 409 Impala and change the plugs. Today, you have to be a contortionist to do any engine work and/or most other repairs and maintenance. I can't even do an LOF on my daily driver myself(Lincoln) cause I can't figure out how to finagle the oil filter off to change it!!

    Best,
    Sparky

P.S. I once tried changing the air filters on the Countach I owned........couldn't even handle that so I brought it to my tech to do the job.:(

I used to not care, but now I wish they had gone racing. The Muira would have ended up a much better car for it, IMHO. Miuras are great, but a better Miura is better!

I own a 2005 Ford Gt. I love the car. The looks are iconic and it still drives well compared to newer exotic cars. One just sold at barret Jackson , las Vegas for $230k. I think they will be 1 million dollars in 10 years.

I have 12 cars in total including a 2010 Lambo Galardo. Mine is a 560-4 convertible. The Ford Gt does not feel slower but it must be :). Yhe only criticsm I have is the exhuast note. Of course that can be changed. The 12 cylinder Lambo has an awesome sound.

Ford Gt is a great car

A million in 10 years? Since I have one I hope you're right but I highly doubt that. What is your reasoning? A pulley & tune GT will destroy a 560.

The shear numbers are: 2.5 years of production Ford produced 4038 Ford GTs
    I'd think that is exclusive.

What people haven't mentioned is how bad the Ford GT is ergonomically. That huge door sill makes getting in and out a real chore.
Also, try taking it anywhere and parking. The opening door angle is painful, really need to take two parking spots

So a sucker paid $230K, no way does that prove the cars worth.

$1M in 10 years......what will that equate to in today's money? With inflation who knows, it might be $100K?

Wow, the article states that the flawed suspension part was made by a Japanese process. They got Roush to make the interims.

"But the A-arm glitch was humiliating. Supplied by Citation Corporation in Alabama, the originals used a novel Japanese casting method nicknamed "squish casting" to achieve higher density in the aluminum. Although the same material and method of manufacture are already in use on some foreign cars, including Alfas and Porsches, the arms, as supplied, were inadequate on the Ford GT."

Supply and demand... I don't think any GT's will be in the 1mm range in 10 years; however, they are an extremely good car to drive, and more and more owners are buying up duplicates...

Its not uncommon to see people on ford gt forums have multiple FGT's with one guy even having five including a matech race car.

Exactly, that is why i didnt buy one, my head hit the headliner, you cannot be tall, and I hit my head on the curved upper door on the way out, the dealer offered to lower the seat for me, but there is no way id be able to drive with a helmet on for a track day...

I'm 6'2 and fit with plenty of room. I know at least 2 owners that are 6'6. One has the Gurney bubble. Regarding getting in and out, I will agree they are tough to get in and out without the door fully open but other than maybe your garage, who would try and squeeze into a tight spot with one? Ask any GT owner about banging their head... you only do it once getting out and never again lol. There is a very easy way to enter and exit the car with no grunting or groaning. I have nothing bad to say about the Diablo. I know nothing about them. Half the people in this thread who are bagging on the GT obviously don't know much about them either.

Another thing about the GT.....I have a weird aversion to the aluminum chassis. I have seen so many high speed wrecks in which the car completely comes apart, killing the occupants. I have very few such wrecks in the the steel chassis cars. One can just go to wrecked exotics.com to see. You will see many Gallardos, 360s, etc in pieces, but few Diablos or Murcielagos ripped into pieces. I think the steel chassis cars are safer (in real high speed wrecks) as the steel bends instead of tearing or snapping like the aluminum does. I wish I could see a study about this. Ultimately, the best chassis for crashes is the carbon fiber one, in any case imo.

Let's get this straight you are saying...

"I've seen pictures of steel vs. aluminum cars that have crashed"
    therefore
"Steel is superior for chassis construction than aluminum"
    However
"I would like to see a study because I don't actually know what I'm talking about"

    Did I get this right?

I think a car that comes apart is actually dissipating the energy of the impact. The key is keeping the drivers compartment in tact. There have been several significant crashes with GTs and in many cases the driver walked away with minor injuries. I can think of one recent one in fact that was all over the news. This is a funny thread. I would suggest that the if the author has questions about the GT that they go ask them on the GT forum where they can get real world experienced owner feedback.

    No you did not nth-db.
How about.....Of all the 1) high-speed modern exotics that were (this excludes the A8 or any sedans) 2) crashed while being driven at high speed, and 3) had their chassis completely break into pieces including the passenger compartments, I have noticed that almost all of them were aluminum chassis cars.

Hence I form an opinion based on the above observation: Steel might hold together better than aluminum in a high-speed crash.

But, I wonder if my sample size is sufficient or adequate, and question the above opinion, and wonder if a proper study has been done.

    Can you understand that?
