    Hi everyone,

I just have a brief question: does anyone here know who currently owns the rebodied SWB 250GTE #3565 made infamous by Lord Brockett's conversion and deception? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

    All the best,
    Ernest:)

3565GT is a real SWB, the replica by Brocket was on 250 GTE 2+2 4015GT, at first restamped 3565GT.

Lord Brockett sold the car to J A Shirley in 92 for 575k$, the real one surfaced from south of France. Some detective proved that Lord Brockett car was a replica based with a 250 GTE 4015.

Mon "Seigneur" Brockett added 2 years more in jail. Total 5 years.

Google up Lord Brockett, the main crime was smashing down three or four Ferraris (five?) and burying them in a Insurance Fraud.....

Jon Shirley sold it years ago. It's currently in Europe.

Or read his book, "Call Me Charley!" One sided, of course, but pretty amusing.

The car was advertised soon after the discovery on a half-page colour ad in Classic Cars for USD 250.000. At the time it was silver metallic with a red stripe. The ad clearly listed its' unfortunate provenance.

The following as appeared in the Ferrari Market Letter,
    volume 22, Number 4, 15 February 1997:

    A one-half page with a picture:

Ferrari 250 SWB Alloy Competizione 1962
Was sold as a real one (S/N3565) by the famous Lord Brocket
    (Then Picture)
This car was built with such total perfection that a Senior Ferrari judge was
fooled when the car was bought. Competition engine, competition ribbed Gearbox.
100% restored by Terry Hoyle in England. $195,00.
    USA 619 551 0500; England 44 181 597 7472

The ad did not appear in the next issue, so the car must have sold immediately.
Passing through the hands of Lord Brocket apparently gave the car a good provenance.

I'm still chuckling over the title of his book. When he would call my office, he would tell the receptionist, "Lord Brocket" (i suppose so that I would be suitably impressed), and when I answered it was, "Hi, it's Charley Brocket".

^ Nice catch! Sorry for the error.

If I weren't so damn lazy I could have got off the sofa and looked at my own copy!

What I had remembered but failed to find until now is this short, simple ad from the
Custom & Conversion section of the Ferrari Market Letter, Volume 22, Number 1,
    4 January 1997:

*250 GT SWG BERLINETTA REPLICA. S/N unknown, built as a counterfeit of
S/N 3565 by Lord Brockett and given that number. Alloy body. Grigo argento
(silver-grey) metallic with red racing stripe. Competition spec. engine. Very
beautiful and little use since new.
    $125,000
    Jon Shirley, ...... (WA)

Again, the ad did not appear in the next issue so the car sold very quickly.

At that price it would have.
