997 GT3 Limited Edition ??

I have been reading about a limited run of GT3 with 500 HP coming ??

Anyone knows?

GT3RS 500 horsies. That be the rumor.

Porsche is the master at wringing the absolute last buck out of the outgoing model.

Is todays GT3 still a 3.6 and has what, 450hp?

the current (997.2) GT3's are 3.8 liters, with 435 bhp in the GT3 and 450 in the GT3RS.

 

Okey, thanks. 50 hp power hike, in a NA engine, just for a special edition seems unlikely... 500 hp output sounds too optimistic in 997's lifetime...

 

I think you may be confused by the stories of the 3.9L Sharkwerk upgradeed GT3s with 500 HP massaged engine outputs. Those have been available since the 997.1 GT3's (came out in 2009?).

Well, I think the days of high output gasoline engined cars are limited by the appearance of hybrid racers. So Porsche may indeed do a last hurrah sale of the current GT3 configuration to bump up RSR output to 500 HP to be competitive to the BMW V8 and Corvette V8, and Ferrari V8s.

This is all in keeping with Porsche's corporate goal of selling 150,000 cars by 2012(14?). So the specials keep on coming... see L.A. autoshow Cayman Club Sport or R, Boxster Spyder, GT2 RS, etc. New 2011 Cayenne and Panamera V6. Nothing can stop the Porsche Juggernaut from its goal to be #1.

I believe the VW/Porsche merger has fallen apart (again).

but I agree, this strategy will end badly for Porsche. cars that once led the industry in retained value now depreciate worse than almost any other car; at some point that kills new car sales. killing the goose that laid the golden egg...

Yes, it's coming. Rumor is MSRP will be close to $200k.

 

$200K is too expensive, unless of course you have an xtra $100K burning a hole in your pocket. Depreciation on that will make GT2s look like good value.

 

Was told about this limited edition GT3 by a dealer today, but no specs were said.

 

I'd rather they figure out how to build one that weighs 2500lbs, than to just keep adding power.

 

They did that years ago ........
