Once starting the car, there is a warning to close top. I open the top then close the top which then causes the car to operate fine during that duration. With the top fully secure without any warning lights on, the car gets powered down. Same problem of the car not thinking the top is not secure once starting up again. Is this normal? Driving with the warning will be followed with a constant beeping if the top is not operated through a full cycle of the top. If it's left open then everything is fine. Has anyone had this problem or have any input? Thanks

Sam- It sounds like you possibly have a sensor telling the system the top is not secured. There are seven sensors telling the roof ECU whether the top is open or closed or in between. Another possibility is the roof ECU is having a problem and needs to be reset. The simplest way to see if the ECU is the problem would be to disconnect the battery using the disconnect switch and leave overnight. Next day reconnect the battery and go through a run cycle to let the ECUs reset and relearn and see if that cures the problem. You will also have to reenter the Becker radio code after you reconnect the battery.

If this does not fix the problem, you will need an SD3 and a technician to analyze and fix.

Below is the run cycle and an explanation of the stilted translation in the FNA bulletin.

Thank you for the input, I really appreciate it. Also, the car just came back from the dealer for the recall. I think the recall is for the ECU relating to the top. Will try to shut the car down overnight & see if that resolves the problem.

    Hi Terry
I have always found that the roof seems to reset OK just by swicthing off ignition and switching back on. I sometimes use an allen key to loosen the brackets when the roof is open so I can open and close the roof manually for cleaning and on some occasions it needs this on-off to clear the problem....but never had to switch the battery isolator off completely to reset it.
I suspect the problem might be the microswitch under the locking lever as mentioned in the other thread reply.

That is one item to be solved but I wonder whether a few of us should get together to try to collectively solve the problem of having a suitable "repair kit" for the main items of the roof which will need replacing over time through use and age.

This includes the gas struts for the trunk and the gas struts helping support the roof mechanism. Both need to be working properly to support the trunk when the roof is open and currently I have to support (help) the roof by using my hand to replace the action of the struts when opening the roof (to stop it dropping suddenly). I wonder if collectively we could commission some slightly higher spec struts for both, from Stabilo, the OEM manufacturer, to get longer and more effective working life from the struts.

I always drive with the top down (unless I get caught in the rain) and I think that protects the roof class from delamination as I think it may be caused by the torsion the roof may experience when locked closed. However I notice that the clasps under the roof front that lock the roof down have a couple of plastic grommets to guid the locking mechanism into place. One of them cracked and fell out, although I had to glue it back in. This grommet is not shown in the parts manual, and is not really visible unless you look hard, but may serve a useful purpose and should be replaced if damaged.

A "kit" might have a any other associated persihable or consumable items that wears down or ages over time, so that one maintenance job can replace all at the same time while the roof mechanism is exposed.

Any thoughts how this might be possible? I am not counting on the Ferrari "replace the whole thing" approach!!

    Thanks
    PAUL

Warranty only covers certain parts which makes it a gamble whether to buy the aftermarket warranty or not.

The problem was a loose cable that wore through time or when the top was replaced (maybe not adjusting the cable properly) a few years ago
