Where is the Lamborghini??

How much of the cars being built today is still Lamborghini? Who designs the cars now? Who builds/designs the body, chassis? I read that Lamborghini still builds the v12 engine but that was it.
Is it just a matter of time until the only involvement that Lamborghini has is that their workers just assemble the German parts? This is the way it is with some of the Japanese plants in the US. Everything is designed and built in Japan and then shipped to the US where US workers simply assemble the parts. How much longer will/can Lamborghini retain some of its Italian heritage? Just a question of which I do not have an answer.

Any one know how much of Gallardo was designed by Audi vs Lamborghini?

 

It's all Audi..take one a part..the 4 rings are everywhere..

 

Personally, I don't care. If Audi's involvement is why I can drive my Gallardo as my daily driver, then great. I love that it's bullet-proof and that I haven't had any problems with it.

I don't find anything romantic about a car that breaks down, leaks or needs constant attention from a mechanic.

 

I could care less if elves from fairy world built a car, as long as it is the kind of car I want to drive.

 

I may get flamed for this, but the first time I drove a Gallardo I hated it, I thought, where is the Italianness...its not that different in feel than a Porsche. Than I drove a few modern Ferraris and thought the same thing.

I think, with the exception of each marques supercars, the difference between modern sports cars is measured in inches, not miles. They all feel like variations of the same theme to me, regardless of their origin. So if they want to make Gallardos in Beirut and Ferraris in China, I tend to feel like they will come out about the same.

Gone are the days forever, when Italian cars required you to work for results, when you could break a sweat just pulling out of your garage, and when, most importantly, you felt that rush of adrenaline driving down a country road...without having to triple the speed limit.

I have come to realize that Gallardos are excellent modern sports cars that provide a certain secure feel due to the AWD setup, Ferraris, are also excellent, and feel more nimble and racy to me, but I can't imagine they have the german reliability of all the Audi subsystems. Porsches...the only thing modern Porsches apparently lack is visual excitement. Almost all modern cars are world cars now...and their country of origin is holding less and less meaning.

I miss the old cars...

Such a ridiculous statement. As if quality wouldn't have gotten better without the Germans. The 60's and 70's have long gone. You don't think Ferrari quality is on par with the Germans? That whole Audi quality crap is way over rated.

 

I found my old Miura with Weber carbs, to be as reliable as my Corolla DX.

I also drove the car on numerous fun runs (drives in the heat) - including an all-day run.





It never had a single problem.
