The vin should end in an even number, so something is amiss here.

 

That is not a genuine LP400 VIN number. No history for it.

 

Yes, VINs are always even and the VIN, divided by 2 is the sequence number of the car's production. For example, number 240 is the 120th car built in that series. Therefore, there can not be an odd number VIN.

 

4l had only even numbers, with the 5l aera the number was switched to the US model with the enlarged VIN, from then on the VINs were justed running numbers, like LP5000S CLA12511. like my former Jalpa: ZA9J00000FLA12203

BTW production 4-liter cars always have a chassis number edging with an even number, no exceptions. If you saw a stamped chassis ID plate ending with a "9", it is a fake.

 

What color is the color of the car?　It was a car of the Arab number and there was a thing of one mystery. The color was not obviously found to the production list though it was a photograph taken at the factory.

In it, the exterior is a car with a red interior in white.　Lp400 basically has the number of the even number.

However, this　blu car thinks that it is an engine number of the odd number. There might be an exception. I do not think that there is an exception.

This car is 1120140 belonging to an Austrian enthusiast. The car was restored by factory affiliates circa 1993 and they were not 100% faithful to original spec & color. For example the dash is leather instead of mouse-hair. I believe the color is Blu Metallizzato, or similar, and you should note that some LP400 were painted a color close to this. The photo-shoot was done for Classic & Sportscars magazine from the UK and the fact that the car was provided through the factory has nothing to do with whether the color is genuine or not. There are classic Lamborghinis in the factory's own Museo that are in incorrect spec!

On LP400 models, the engine stamping number is the same as the VIN. That stamping is down between the V of the heads on the block and because it is the same as the VIN, it should also end in an even number. If the engine number on an LP400 is different from the VIN, then that engine belongs to a different car. And it will be easy, with Joe's help, to find the right car for that engine. If the engine stamping does not end in an even number, then there has been some monkey business somewhere in the past. However, on later models like the QV, the engine number is different from the VIN.

 

Vic you are generally right but (I don't have my notes here as I am on vacation) at some point with the 4-liter cars the engine numbers shifted to the car's chassis number + 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. We have a thread or a number of posts on this somewhere..

I can verify that. #22 had enginenumber #20 when I owned it and I suppose it was the original engine for that car.

Yes, something like that. And soon the engine numbers surpassed the chassis numbers by 2, then 4, then 6 etc. I was told this was because pre-stamped engines sometimes got pulled for technical or logistical reasons and the next one on the line went in..

 

But I know that 090 has engine numbers 090 so it must have happened sometime after that, so I don't know about that 022 / 020 stuff.

For mysterious reasons, some owners have tried to stamp their own VIN on some car's chassis. Odd VINs.
May be it was fashionable to have a unique VIN type a few decades ago?
I came across 1 example. The onmwer went as far as trying to erase the original VIN. So An odd number may hide an original even number...

Or may be that strategy was also used to hide stolen cars?

 

There is NO acceptable reason for doing this. It was done to hide stolen cars, to defraud the authorities and evade taxes etc. Whatever the reason, it was both illegal & immoral.
