Do they exist anywhere ? I seam to remember R & P (reasonable and proper)
in the Northwest and a long time ago in Nevada. Also - after a trip thru France and Italy,
the autostrata had cameras for speed at many locations.....

looks likes Germany is the last frontier. I would have thought that
areas in the middle East would be listed.

Before anyone says "Montana" ... nope. They've had a limit since 2000.

Not that it matters much - I'm there every summer and regularly cruise
from 90 - 110 on the long lonely stretches - our last trip, for an entire week
criss crossing the state, not a single cop in sight.

What is the speed limit number on those stretches? Do they just ignore you if you're not recklessly speeding?

It's 75 most places - 70 when you get closer in to Missoula. And no, they do NOT
ignore speeders!! I have seen a lot of people getting tickets over the years.

BUT - it's SO BLOODY REMOTE in most places you can see 15 miles down the
road and tell there are ZERO cars and no places for a cop to hang out. So it's
very common to see a "caravan" of 3 or 4 vehicles, moving as a pack, at 95 MPH

Great photo... I have a bunch of those myself (rentals, NOT Ferraris!) - did you know that a
Nissan Altima 3.5 rental car can maintain comfortable cruise speed at
120 MPH for an hour at a time? ;)

even the minor bump in the pavement at speed
    can be very dangerous !!
you really need to know the road, and your car, your tires, brakes
truly unsafe without real heads up thinking

In Montana we call it having a "scout". When you find someone willing to be the scout and drive at a high speed, you just fall in behind him at a safe but visual distance and let him take the heat when the poop hits the fan. I've been nailed many times at 100 and over on the lost highway, and got a hand slap. The secret is to have MT. plates, and be very nice and respectful. Once a HP said he wanted to take a quick search of the car. I said sure but watch out there's a hand gun under the seat. He said thanks for letting me know.

There was a brief window when MT didn't have a DAYTIME speed limit. Went to a wedding near Missoula with some friends. and learned that a Ford Explorer gets 4.2mpg at an indicated 125. It also jumps from lane to lane on expansion joints....

The man Speaks the Montana Truth. Of course, I'll never have MT plates so I'm always
back in the pack - an easy target.

And being able to trust your fellow drivers. In addition to having meticulously maintained roads the standard of driving in Germany is very high. 135mph on the Autobahn was completely uneventful.

The autobahn is still unlimited in places, but traffic usually sucks. But if you get up early on a Sunday morning...

Its not as it used to be but in my experience the Autobahn usually flows well once out of the cities at non-rush hour times.
Although they are officially limited I've found that high speeds are common the Autostradas as well.

When the federal 55 mph speed limit was repealed in the 90s and states got back authority over their highway speed limits, Montana did go back to a "reasonable and prudent" speed limit. They then had to deal with car clubs that would road trip to Montana to do top speed runs, obviously not reasonable and prudent, and the Montana police would ticket the idiots.

One idiot in a Corvette, IIRC, decided to challenge the ticket on the grounds that "reasonable and prudent" was too vague to be enforceable. As a result, Montana had to revert to a posted speed limit. Thanks, idiot!

    Which reminds me ...

I've heard tell of a group of Canadian Ferrari owners who like to tour At Speed throughout parts of the Pacific NW, collecting various and sundry speeding tickets as they go.

As it was explained to me, they ignore them, with impunity, as doing so cannot affect their Canadian driver's license.

    Cool loophole, if true.

The problem is people do not respect them thus......

I give drivers a maximum of 10mph over the limit but then again that depends on their driving habits.

Or did I miss the jest of your post?

It is too vague as that is the case in Texas as the speed limit is deemed in our Penal Code as too be 'reasonable and prudent' for the road and traffic conditions YET there are clearly displayed speed limit sign's, wtf!!!

Argentina roads are not great & they have a limit but no enforcement & corrupt Cops that can be easily bribed

Urguguay is tiny but has beautifu roads & now speed limits, watch out for donkey karts though :)

The vast majority of the German Autobahn has speed limits. Bavaria is the Big Holdout against a National Speed Limit which has been suggested numerous times.

Since the "Fall of the Wall" the traffc is just to much. That event will ultimately "Kill" the world famous Autobahn and get limits set on 100% of it. Sad but true, and just a matter of time.

The two best Autobahns IMO to reliably drive 160+ KPH (100+ MPH) for sustained periods near anytime are:

    - Autobahn 81 between Heilbronn and Wurzburg;
    - Autobahn 71 between Schweinfurt and toward Gera / Erfurt; and
    - Autobahn 70 between Bamberg and Bayreuth.

Those three places have habitually little traffic on them.

Kalahari Ferrari we call them :D.

Botswana is ok for speeding. There is a speed limit, but cops are fairly easily bribed. At night there's no police on the road.

Things to watch out for is cattle crossing the road.
