I've driven 'em around the city but not on the open highway,a previous owner told me today. That there heavy and a straight line car only, look at there race history they only ever won on long tracks or endurance events, where they just chugged away for hours.
    Your thoughts?

Like to hear what other owners think?
I value this ex owners thoughts,he thinks i would be disappointed in the handling of one compared to what I've owned and driven on rallies.

Just buy one and if you don't like it, sell. Better than money in the bank. I don't see them getting any cheaper

Disagree, they were selling for $300k 10 years ago, I had a look at a restored car at that price but opted for the dino and bb for same amount(oh well, just another mistake I've made)

No more will be made and market for these cars IMO continues to expand. Just pray the Chinese don't take a fancy to them

If you really care about how your next car drives, buy a new one. They drive well. :D

As Greg says, the Daytona is investment grade. You can't go wrong.

fair comment, but there is few new cars out there that i would want with 110kph speed limits enforced the way they are in VIC.
As a dealer said to me today "non of them hold there value anymore, take at least 50% of there new car value when 3 years old."
I'm after a Daytona for the rallies, investment for me thats a bonus if it happens.

I don't subscribe to the China theory personally. I think they are very brand and image conscious and like the "latest and greatest".

"investment grade" was the catch cry of the late 1980's. Anyone left without a chair when the music stopped lost their shirts BIG time.

People also forget about the running and holding costs of these things, and if you restore it.........mega $.
If you accounted for everything like any other investment you would have a different view.

Yep, very true, but I suspect the wealthy might start looking for other exclusive items to help them stand out of the crowd. Appreciation for older stuff eg cars, art etc will slowly creep in as they gradually become westernized

I agree without them and the Russians many of the name/it brands would be in trouble
I've always for many years enjoyed Burberry, the brand is now focused on Chinese and Japanese, whom look laughable in that style clothing.

    OK, I'll bite.

A straight line car only? They don't like changing direction quickly, but if you turn in at first gently and early, get the sidewalls and suspension loaded up, then turn again for the apex, they will carry a lot of speed through tight corners. Squeeze the gas on exit and the tail will drift easily and predictably - great fun. Mind you, you have to learn how to hustle them around corners at speed 'cos the brakes don't cope with repeated heavy applications.

A 246 will run rings around you in tight sections, but come the straight and the 246 winds up whereas the Daytona explodes - there is nothing from the period that matches it's top end acceleration.

The key factor is the condition of tyres and suspension. Too many people drive on old tyres and soggy shocks, then blame the car.

They are very physical to drive hard, I prefer to sit in the 70-100mph sweet spot, where the chassis comes alive, but you're nowhere near the edge of adhesion or braking and you remain relatively relaxed at the wheel.
