This is the only way to stop Bangkok or KL style traffic jams from emerging. At about 60k, a lot of the Picantos, Altises, QQs, Protons and Sunnys et al will never see the light of day on Singapore roads and the people who would have otherwise bought them and put them on the road will be forced to take public transport instead.

COE prices are determine by a bidding system, i.e. by the buyers themselves. In actuality, the dealers are the ones who will make the bidding on behalf of buyers. Is the system fair? Depends on who you talk to. For a lot of us, the increasing number of cars and the consequential slow down in average speeds on Singapore roads are a constant source of irritation. The high COE prices may not help improve this (at least not immediately) but it would certainly help contain the situation.

In time to come, and if COE prices remain high, the traffic situation may actually improve. When more cars are de-registered and not replaced, roads widened, etc, we could actually see higher average speeds on the roads. Is this worth 80k to you? For me, I think it is. Especially if they do not change the COE rebate system, i.e. the pro-rata refund of your COE price depending on the number of years left. The high upfront price COEs would deter a lot of the buyers of smaller cars. But it should have less of an impact on the others.

Hmphhh...weird looking box that is not seen in local KFC's here...'One of a kind taste'...'fresh'...'cripsy'.....If not for the top cover, i would have been thinking of smthg else... :D

They can do this in SG coz SG has proper public transportation. Doing this in MY or Bangkok is suicide, especially towns outsider KL. All about supply and demand i guess, and if it still goes up and up and up, I guess even those at the upper group will also feel the pinch.

Agree & not. Just like how they told us that we should have two properties & then now becoming quite impossible for the young ones to afford it.

Cheap cars are definitely killed off the register now & I actually do detest those red weekenders when they not just hog traffic but are actually causing dangers @ times!

I thought car dealers usually bid in advance & keep spare coe certs? The COE bidding is a very "grey" thing for me. I've heard many times that prices only start to realised in the last few hours, just like ebay :D & then u get those fluke $50 thing with rumour of certain taxi firm launching a fleet of cars. Oh well.

I feel pain for the family who genuinely needs a personal transport but it is a luxury they need to plan properly as some owners really do need to care about ?L/100km, road tax, car park & ERP etc.

Just wonder if they should just remove the COE altogether & use ERP to control traffic.

For me, I just plan my routes around lighter traffic to move about.

Tax revenue from motor vehicles is the second highest revenue for the govt. So we can forget about the govt reducing in a big way or abolishing taxes. Pay and Pay is the motto.

Not sure what stage it was on..will find out from KBS...likely stage 3 and 5 which is the
normal KSG setting. Have you heard a Novitec exos before on an F car?

Dont pray play with them ah... I have met quite a few mean Proton on the roads..
Know a guy that sells Evo half cuts , engines to fit the Protons. Power plenty.. but brakes
    very bad!

I have a large slab of Kagoshima grade A5 beef in my freezer. My friend supplies them
to a well know local casino. And also an even more well known jap restaurant. Can set u
up at $260 a kg. If eat in restaurant it will cost you $180...per 100g.
