I didn't say that, but here is a crashed A8 as it appeared after the police pilled up all the parts that got spread around. This one was a death trap, as a matter of fact.

hehe, take it down a notch. Based on your reply, my first of your posts' cliffnotes still appear to hold true. Can you point out where my summation is incorrect? Why exclude a sedan which is aluminum?

Maybe instead I should have stated "you are not qualified to make that judgement" instead of "you have no idea what you are talking about".

I just did include a picture of an Audi A8 that completely came apart. But the reason I excluded sedans is that the person who drives extremely fast more is much more likely ton do so in an exotic sports car built for that purpose, which also can tempt and invoke an unusually high desire to drive fast, not in a sedan, no matter how fast the exotic may be. These are generalizations, and there are exceptions, but when you look at most of the high speed crashes, they are of sports cars not sedans. That is why I generally excluded them. But there are exceptions, as you can see in the pic of the A8.

I know I am not qualified to make factual statements, that is why I would like to see a study of some sort. However, I am entitled to my opinions, and right now, based on my observations, I would rather drive a steel or carbon fiber chassis high speed exotic at high speed than an aluminum one, unless it has a proper roll cage. But this is just my opinion based on what I have seen. It is not a proper study. So today, I would chose to select the Murci or a Diablo to drive over 150 mph for a length of time, over a Gallardo, 430, GT, or any other aluminum chassis car, because I would feel safer. That does not mean I would be safer, but how I feel I would be.

Yes, that would have been a better thing to say, but it does't take qualifications to make judgements. Here is what I'm talking about. Look at all these pics of 360s. I'll post some of Gallardos next. I can spend hours finding hundreds pics of torn-apart aluminum chassis exotics with dead occupants, but I have a hard time finding a steel tube framed exotic in this condition, such as a Diablo, or Murci, or even Countach. I can find lots of unibody cars torn apart, but still not as many as the aluminum chassis cars.

Where's pics of a GT? You were asserting it's chassis is weak right?

I've had just about every type of diablo made (excluding the Diablo GT, GTR, etc) and owned a 6.0 while owning an FGT as my DD for nearly 3 years. Trust me, not even close, completely different league, the ford at least IMO puts everything lambo has built over the last decade (baring the LP640 and SV) to shame. You can't really appreciate the FGT until you spend time with one.

No, I didn't say that. I just don't trust aluminum chassis as much as steel ones. Does the GT have a steel roll cage or something like that?

Completely subjective, no facts, just impressions.

I don't trust purple polka dotted cars either. I don't know why, I just don't.
I've never owned one, I don't know anyone that has and aI've never read anything on them, but I don't trust them

Why don't you look a few posts earlier? In just a few minutes, I can find dozens of aluminum chassis cars ripped in half, with nothing where the people used to be sitting. There are several such pics a few posts up. I looked for over an hour and couldn't find one steel tube framed chassis (not unibody) ripped in half like in the way the earlier pics show aluminum chassis bisected with obviously dead occupants. That is the reason. That is called EVIDENCE. Put your polka dots in your buttxton as your example suckston.

Paul I agree with you. I own 12 cars inxluding a 2005 Ford Gt and a 2009 Lambo Garlardo.

The list on my Ford was $165K. That a very loaded car. A Ford Gt just sold for $230k at Barret jackson just recently. I think they will go up in value because they dod not make many and most importanly they rae not making any more. Even compared to newer exotics they perform very well.

I would give up my Ferrari 458 before the Ford GT.

Pity the thread, which was a simple question to start..although impossible to answer objectively, has descended into a slagging match.
I own a 2006 GT, purely by chance as it happens. The GT40 has always been my all time favourite car, and when I viewed the first road test of the GT in 2005, i really really wanted to own one, but never imagined I would get the chance.
The Diablo is also on my wish list, and at the end of last year, after selling my Ferrari BB512, I decided to buy a Diablo, and began a search for a late SV, or preferably a 6.0
I struck a deal several months later on a great example of a 6.0 in black, only for the seller to change his mind, deciding to keep the car. A few months later, I found out that the GT, one of just three in my country, could possibly be bought, and I started negotiating. The day I took a test drive, I also looked at a 2005 Murci, a nice example with Roadster wheels and brake upgrade, but for me it stood no chance against the GT. Therein lies my first point, the Murci is no doubt a "better" car than the Diablo, but I would rather have the Diablo to the Murci.
As it stands now, I am glad the Diablo owner pulled out of the sale, if he had not, I would not own my GT, but I still want to buy a Diablo.
Comparing both is a bit pointless, different cars using different engines and drivetrain, it is really whatever rocks your boat. A GT is faster...who cares.
A few comments here though are amateur, such as "its still only a Ford" Yep, it is a Ford, and the GT is one of two supercars they have produced, and both of them are legends in their own time.
I have to say it is an incredible car. They really have excelled at the design and engineering. If I had a criticism, it would be the steering is a little light, although that can be improved with different tyres, and the car is somewhat quiet, something I have just remedied with a set of racing manifolds and exhaust.
The GT was built to be tuned, Ford racing offer several performance exhaust, ECU and supercharger upgrades which are approved. What other car can be bumped up to 1000bhp on stock internals and transmission, and still be a perfectly docile street driver?
One other correction, the engine is not from the F150. When Ford decided to put the concept into production, they first started with that motor, charging Roush with the tuning program. But the motors all let go under extreme testing when tuned up. So a new motor was designed, using the same casting dimensions to start, but drilled to facilitate extra cooling and lubrication, with stronger crank, conrods etc. The 5.4 motor is unique to the GT...a motor for the F150 does not cost 45k!!
I have driven several Diablo's, and still want to own one, but not instead of my GT. The Lamborghini engine is amazing, I love the incredible noise, and the way you can feel it vibrate through the car. It is also still an amazing looking car, full fat Lambo in my eyes. Is it better than a GT...subjectively, no, of course not, it is a far less modern car. For me, also no, but thats my preference. I still want one though.

+1. It is stupid to pick a winner between the two. They are from different decades....they have totally different histories and reasons to be......anyone with either should consider themselves blessed as they are both top-notch, incredible vehicles.

Although I am a huge fan of all Diablo models and the Ford GT, one large advantage I perceive the Ford GT to have over the Diablo as far as potential values go is a significantly larger market. From what I have seen, the Ford GT is highly desired and purchased by exotic car enthusiasts who normally would never consider purchasing an American sports car and by the American sports/muscle car enthusiasts that would never consider buying an imported exotic (i.e. a Diablo). Thus, while there may be many more Ford GTs than Diablos in existence, I believe Ford GT values will remain strong as they sought by such a large market. Anyone care to add their thoughts on my theory?

Your theory is bang on the button. I would never have considered American Muscle/Sports cars with the exception of the GT. It stems from the legendary status of the GT40, and the fact that the GT is an exceptional car in its own right.

Evidence, eh? Do you know anything about the circumstances of each crash? Speed of impact? In order to compare the structural integrity and passenger safety of different cars, you have to do so under controlled circumstances. Have you heard of the scientific method?

I can show you dozens of cases of people dying from Tylenol ingestion. Does that mean it's more dangerous than water? Both can kill you if you take enough.....

Hey buddy, Merry Christmas....and yes, if you can scan the internet and find many recent examples of people who have died from Tylenol ingenstion, and after hours of scanning the internet can't find me any that people that died from Fluid X ingestion (let's not use water because people drown all the time), then I would conclude that GENERALLY SPEAKING, Tylenol ingenstion is more dangerous than Fluid X ingestion. And I would be afraid to ingest Tylenol!!!! With good reason!!!! So........if I can do a quick search of the internet and find MANY aluminum chassis bisected where the seats are, resulting in dead people, in high speed sports cars involved in high speed accidents, and I can't find ANY steel tubular framed chassis bisected where the seats are resulting in dead people, in SIMILAR high speed sports cars involved in high speed accidents, then I would conclude that GENERALY SPEAKING, aluminum chassis cars are more likely to kill you in a high speed crash. Buddy that is simple logic. Sure a lawyer can argue things sideways, but that is how I see it and that is a logical way to see it, and therefore, I don't trust aluminum chassis cars for real high speed crashes and I will chose to drive a Murci, Diablo, F40, or another steel or carbon fiber chassis car at high speed because that is what I think is more safe if I do get into an accident. You can do whatever you want to do. By the way 1 + 1 = 2.

No wonder all those engineers who design and crash model cars, and all those NHTSA and IIHS engineers who painstakingly crash test cars under controlled conditions are out of work now. They've all been proven wrong by.......the internet.

Hundreds of years of education, thousands of hours of scientific testing <<<<<< wreckedexotics.com.

    Makes perfect sense to me!

    Hey "Rookie" Doc V8;
If you have read this thread, you will recall that at the beginning of the aluminum chassis discussion I stated that I wish I could find a proper scientific study on the matter, but I have been unable to find one. If you know of one, please share with this community. But, everything I have found from NHTSA and IIHS has not been helpful because it has been related to federal and other gvmt standards (for vehicles traveling at approximate legal rates of speed), and not to high speed crashes at 100+ mph for example, and that is what I want to know about because I believe that aluminum chassis are not as safe as tubular steel or carbon fiber chassis in those types of crashes. So, in absence of such scientific data, I use what some people have...it is something called common sense. And I will come to my conclusions logically and with data that I have access to. Once again, you can do whatever you want. Please provide constructive data, like crash standards for, and tests done at, very, very, very high speeds, comparing the different chassis types. If you can't find that data, then come to your own conclusions, but you have no defense by hiding behind organizations who, to my knowledege, haven't done such studies. Your sarcasm is funny, but doesn't make anybody believe in the safety of these aluminum chassis in high speed wrecks.

Seeing a chassis cut in half with a bloody driver's seat dangling in the air attached to half a car, which has ejected its occupant to certain death, is disturbing and disconcerting to any normal human. Anyone who likes to drive fast will wonder why the cockpit of a car designed to go 200 mph or so would not be better built. Tubular steel and carbon fiber cockpits seem to stay together (please show me pictures to the contrary (of a street legal production car) if you disagree). That is why I feel less safe in an aluminum chassis car when traveling at very high speeds.
