We want to keep all the wires in place because you never know what the next owner wants to do. Also, we might wire up some wipers and custom headlights (skunkwerks project). Plus it is possible that someone someday might want to use the stock harness for something. This is/was a Challenge car and theoretically, it could be again if Ferrari needs it to comply with the rule set. To many options...

It was great seeing the dash come to life. It's a green LCD high tech looking thing (for 2001 when it was installed). As for the key, nah, it should stay. We already have several buttons we haven't a clue about, so why add another?

Why do I see a dented 550 drift racer in the old crystal ball. :)

Oh also there is nothing 348C legal about that car anymore. But Ferrari will never resurrect that series and maybe they would rekindle some kind of classic series with lax rules especially if that FRCA mostly on the east or what ever it is called takes off. the efi ecu is definately not legal nor are the adjustable shocks.

    Thanks, Buzzkill.
We'll talk to the Grand Poohbah of the GFRT about that. The GFRT is notoriously bribeable. I've been told that for the price of mere sparkplugs one can get a "pure stock" classification in the GFRT.

At a point in time it was a Challenge car, then it was an SCCA race car.... It would cost as much as the purchase price to bring it back to a Challenge car and why would one do that, it has evolved way past that point.

Lights, Wipers, horn... agreed, might as well put them all in. That is my plan for the IMSA so it can be used on the street in a semi legal manner for club touring events. One cant have enough buttons... but a key, in a race car???

FBB drifting?! I spend a lifetime trying to learn how to get these cars to hook up on the track... and he is out doing spinners in the 550? Fart can mufflers next?

Me thinks fbb needs to apply for a race seat in the fxr boys entry.

As for the key in a race car??? Next thing you know they'll have a Coon's tail on the pit radio antenna and a Rebel Flag on the refueling rig.

Bruce and I have discussed it and we believe that the best course is to lift the budget, er, eliminate it. :)

Also, I just remembered about hill climb events. This car is perfect for that. Wonder why we don't have one in SoCal...

Got to keep the keyed ignition just in case we want to make the case that the car is streetable. Heh, yeah, right...

Coontails on order, BTW, along with helmet mod to add side mounted beer cans for driver hydration.

All racecars have SOME kind of key! Usually just a big red one , where one fit's all! I recall Porshe 962's not only had a key for the door's but ignition as well!!

Well send me two pair! I have seen some strange things crawling around in the hills out here but a twin tailed coon is yet to be spotted.... that must be a Georgia evolution thing, me... I'm long on Skunks!

I am still trying to deal with the fact Plugzit has a moose in his SoCal garage... he is sure hanging out with one lucky gal, how many can boast about having a Moose and 2 red cars in the garage? That amounts to 5 rungs up on the social ladder and now we have no chance to even consider a visit or an audience with the crew out that way. What's next, a Manatee in Ernie's garage? Us minions.... I had a mouse take a dip in the drain pan the kid left out from Thanksgiving and left an oil trail across the floor... felt so good he did it twice! We had best make more power than those guys because we sure are being out classed in garage art!

Dope up this AM and give me a call.... UPS brought the elusive "Happy Cheater Boxes" yesterday. I suspect the mill and lathe will be running full time over the Holidays, there are Race Engines to build now and this working for a living is getting in the way of making power! Now, if we can thaw Gary out and get his suck machine fired up... how's that G Warming working out for you Gary? We were working with the doors open yesterday.

Up to 32 degrees yesterday....wooo hoooo. First time it's been above the teens for weeks. Then we got more snow overnight.
Met a customer from Mississippi in downtown Indy Friday night, I think it got to 6 degrees that night. I'm sure he was glad to get the hell out of here.
I may have to bust out the sunscreen and head to the Rockies for some sun and fun!!

If pugzit is goin to use that Moose head snorkel antler wing thingy on his car then I'm goin with my Armadillo helmet.

    1. First thing I did was a pencil sketch to get the creative juices flowing.

    2. Next thing was to borrow a dirt bike and toilet plunger. The commercial style plunger has enough vacuum to hold a 10 pound male armadillo running at full speed.
NOTE: You can't make a helmet out of roadkill that's been hit by an 18wheeler....still good eatin though.

    3. Then you cook it for 3-4hrs in the oven at 250deg....this tempers the shell. When finished you call your buds and tell them you've prepared a feast and all they have to do is bring plenty of beer.

    4. Last step is to get your neighbor(the one whose dog always craps in your yard) to put it on for a little testing. Give him a 2way radio to keep him distracted and the first time he says 10-4 good buddy that's when you launch the 35" offroad steel wheel.

That just about assures me FBB is going to beat you guys to the grid and he doesnt even have a car yet.

Yesterday while you were designing a way to mount a Moose (I'm still troubled by that Ernie) I had T-6 chips flying off the mill and got the new intake mounts roughed in, the overhead injector mounts worked out and can now see what's ahead of me for the throttle linkage. Linkage, cold air box angles and height and velocity stack lengths..... those are going to take some thinkin! Plugzit, I warned you about that darned Ga boy, he has prodded me enough that it will be fed via a snorkel. Be careful listening to that one, he is used to building race cars where the only mention of the word "Budget" is when used in the form of a German joke without a punchline! He's the one your Momma warned you about!

We have the Plugzit/Vince 358, the Sy/Raj 348LM, the Bruce/FBB 355 Spiders (there always has to be a couple of Cheaters in the crowd doesnt there?) and the Stroker McGerk, zero budget, use what's in the loft, IMSA 348... that's a lot of perfectly good Ferrari's getting widdled up at the same time! I see no way around a race if you guys ever get done doing what ever it is you are doing with that Moose! One way or another that 358 and the IMSA will be reunited at some point in the near future.

YEP, my bet is ya'll be reuniting BIG TIME at turn one on which ever course the race is at.

Kinda sounds like you're getting worried about the competition....just remember there is some psychological games being played...what is said here and what shows up for the contest may be shocking.

FYI, if fbb shows up with a wing mount setup like he had on his 348 I refuse to look at the back of that thing while racing...if need be I'll cut through the grass to get in front of him.

    Worried... always, its racing.

Games.... Naw, how much Competition can an engine built from scrap yard parts, the recycle store and left over Ferguson tractor parts be? No need for concern there.

Shocking... Bet on THAT! Appalling might be a more appropriate word. I dont have the budget the big boys have. My budget amounts to passing on the next Jeep oil change and finding new design uses for Duct Tape.

Tomorrow (monday) we're gonna try to start the 358 for the first time in 4 years or so. We've installed a Motec M48 with an ignition expander and I've wired as best I can. We'll power it up and if nothing smokes we'll hit the starter. If it cranks (considering the fact that it's my wiring job, that's a big IF), and there's no popping and f#rting, then we'll see if we can install a map for fuel and timing that's somewhere near right and maybe terrorize the neighborhood! (Stooge alert!)
