Yeah boy, met several of them with genuine Evo engines & the worst thing is they are dare devils, so not worth racing them.

Yup. Dont play play with them. Reckless driving to taunt you. I tend to drive slower
when they come zooming beside me.

These modded proton guys are scarey... once a group of them actually raced with one of my mates, Ron, on the north south. There was a group of 4 or 5 of them if I remember and they then boxed him in and tried to run him off the road. He pulled into the service lane and gunned out to save himself.

There are 12 excluding PI. New was about $920-950k

700k sounds about right for a 2009 car. But the ads are pricing them 800k+.
Lung, you think Scud will see mid 500s when its 4years old?

That's $640K USD. Pretty good chunk of pocket change. A purchase like that is still doable by many in the US especially those who are middle-aged and have prospered in their own businesses. But most young US people nowadays can't imagine achieving a position in life where they can afford such a luxury. The American dream where anything is possible is slowing dying for people starting out in life here. In my opinion it was killed by excessive government spending and regulations.

So I am encouraging my kids to look elsewhere to live. One good alternative is Singapore. What is the attitude of young people living in Singapore towards their future? Do many of them aspire to have the wealth to buy the Scuderia? Is it realistic that many will one day have the money to do so? Is the American dream where anything can be achieved through hard work still alive in Singapore?

I hate that I sound so cynical, but aspirations and reality rarely converge in Singapore. If you're seriously thinking about moving here... I'd suggest having a fallback, especially if your children are going to start out from scratch - i.e. without financial backing from you or a business of some sort that they can inherit. Opportunity costs are huge because of the inherent cost of living here.

Property prices are starting to skyrocket again. So if your children aren't going to live with you (for the rest of their lives), they're going to have to get their own home first. Unless they're going to live in the boondocks (and being foreigners there's the whole other issue of property-owning eligibility), a decently-located/sized apartment is going to cost north of US$2 million.

    House>Scuderia.

    Do you want grandchildren? Family>Scuderia.

    Food+School fees>Scuderia. And so on.

Of course lots of young people dream of owning an exotic car, but as with everything else in life, luck plays a huge role. The American dream type of progress through hard work *doesn't* quite apply. For one, an Ivy-league (or equivalent) education doesn't guarantee six-figure salaries for fresh graduates here. And there's also the uniquely Singaporean schooling system/social conditioning to contend with. Etc., etc.

My quote is based on what was last transacted. I think thats the best way to look at market value. The 800k+ price sounds very high. Question is can it sell at 800K+

Mate, for over half a million USD on a car that you can use for less than 10yrs? It's 3x more expensive than US & 10,000x lesser roads to drive on. Go figure.

It's probably about the same everywhere in a developed country. Some of us are migrating to Australia/NZ for 'better' lifestyle & free education etc. & I would say currency exchange plays a part as well.

Like what Uhoo said, the avg <25 local can barely afford their first property which is a 99yr leasehold apartment call HDB flat then struggle to own a USD80K entry-level car. Almost all will need support from parents for a start-up. Then again, most of us don't stay in million dollar apartments as 80% of the population stay in USD200-500K flats. Even this is tough for most of them as most live on finance & cannot live without a pay for more than 6 months!

Hard work+luck works everywhere & if you want your kids to enter Chinese market in future (the biggest economy soon), Singapore is a good place to start with as English is our #1 language & we have good "guanxi" with them while they need to tap into us @ the moment to enter western market. There is a US billionaire who retired here & sends his daughters to local schools. They speak pretty good Mandarin ;)

I was having supper last night in a local food joint. The signages used to be in four languages but have since been replaced with just English. If you're in Malaysia, Thailand or any other SE Asian countries, you'll struggle with their language down to filling up forms @ the post offices.

If you're true American, go China now like what our ancestors did a 100yrs ago to America.

Speaking of that. My staff told me that the now Chinese owned Volvo profited in just one year?! The China guy who started Geely used to operate a photostudio taking family portraits! Now that is a dream!

$700K sounds like a decent buy but Terry's right. By virtue of age=depre, it should be there. Some PIs were hawking them @ $850K just a year or two ago right?

I think dealers price them above $800K now is to anticipate trade-ins & there's usually a $50K free-play for this price level.
