Wow....$59k for a 1999 355 Spyder (F1 !!) ? Seems to good to be true.

Sweet colour combo and interior stitching....Looks like a bargain if the motor and mechanicals are OK.

If you can grab this car for $49k, you would have yourself an awesome daily driver even if you need to dump $10k in repairs in the upcoming years.

 

Nope, but if its got all the goods it is a steal at that price.

 

LOL, so its a great deal at $59K (Which I agree if it is a good car). But At $49K its even better!?!?! Man, People really do think dealers steal all these cars at auction or make 30-40 gs on a $50G car This reminds me of the other thread where a $20G offer was gonna possibly be made on a $50G F328!!!

Anyway, I dont know anything about this car or dealer. But I do know there are a few yellow spiders around in Canada and most of them have a story.

 

just be very careful- even if you could get this car for 50 grand - the 355 is not the car to play "oh we'll " i can fix it ... its very easy to get upside down on a 355 -

have it checked by 2 different mechanics , check the VIN and pay your $20 to find out where its been.

360s are not going for $79,900 these days.

Piles of crap with lots of (very poorly done) paintwork and lots of deferred maintanence will ask $79,900, but good cars? Nope.

 

If t WAS from Quebec chances are that it was smashed into a wall by a valet when it was fairly new. I have no way of knowing if the same car or not but if originally from Quebec or spent quite a few years there then it's the same car, easy enough for anyone to check though!

And not sure if this price is accurate but last I heard the F1 pump on a 355 was $14,000, also they drive pretty crappy, unless of course you like you and your passengers head being slammed back and forth everytime a gear change is made then by all means the 355 F1 is for you! I also understand that it was brand new technology at the time and wonderful for it's time but paddle shift in any other car now a day's is better.

It's all speculation. First find out if its accident free. Second, find out if the manifolds and cats have been replaced; if not, assume $13K expenses in the first year of ownership. Then talk about PPIs and service records, etc.

 

From what I recall, the car was originally from Texas. Has paint on the front, passenger side door and roof/rear quarter. As I said, it was poorly done with over-spray in many places. Belts and clutch are due (unless it has since been serviced). Not even worth the low asking price, IMO.

 

Pretty sure this car is from Vancouver, Both mine and this one had the yellow piping on the seats (very rare) It was sold in Vancouver a few years ago with 30,000kms on it

 

Vasco, I think $49k is a fair offer, lets say the final selling price would be $55k. Chances are this car has been painted, and is in rough shape. The car is a ticking time bomb, and a huge liability for the new owner. If you have to install an F1 pump, change belts, clutch and gaskets, you are looking at close to $25k in future work.

This may be a perfect 'project' car, where a local mechanic can buy it at a cheap price, update all the maintenance, then flip it for a profit once its all brought up to spec.

 

As usual BR and I are on the same page. Keep in mind though that the horror stories about 355 maintenace, although not entirely untrue, are not necessarily a given. Anyone who even remotely considers one of these cars should really spend a lot of time in the 355 section doing A LOT of research. Although the upside down scenario is entirely possible with a bad car don't be afraid of the car because of what "might" happen. I have a box sitting in my office now with two new SPAL cooling fans from the "fan man" for less than $250Cdn to my door. Care to guess what FoO wants for just 1. And there are work arounds for most other issues as well. A fellow F-Chatter has recently grafted a 360F1 pump to his 355 so the potential cost of that scenario has become 20% of what it once was. Then there is the Dave Helms gold connector kit for all the electrics and on and on and on. Deal with the known quantities, Accidents, hard part issues like headers, valve guides and clutches can be easily found by a PPI. Your passion and a little reseach can keep the rest from becoming the life altering experience some think is a given.

Yellow 355 at Ferrari Quebec. It is a US car that I think had its front and rear bumpers replaced/repaired as they had a yellow one on Autotrader for a while needing repair. Saw the car a few months ago.....looked very nice and hey Ferrari Quebec can explain the history for you and you would have dealership support as well.

There was a salt encrusted Yellow 355 F1 the other night (possibly the 23rd) on a back street in the Royal York Rd & Lakeshore Blvd area, a tow truck idling close by and three guys pulling the trunk panels open looking very hard for the battery so they could give it a boost. It had a FoO plastic tag on the rear plate. As it wasn't parked very well I don't believe the battery was dead because the lights got left on. Only Yellow 355 I've seen in a few weeks

 

No doubt he was on his way to get the car washed. I heard there is a great place around the corner there to do it

 

Listen carefully all of you. Any 355 spider selling at a dealership for that money has a lot of stories and thats a guarantee. Its a POS end of story. Dont even waste your fuel to look at it. As for the shifting of an F1, its not that bad if you know how and it was new years earlier than 99. I myself would never own an F1 shifting 355 or an early 360. They got it right by the time they got to the end of the 360s and then the 430s. Now if only Ferrari could make good exhaust manifolds for any of the 355, 360, 430 and up.

I do not know anything about this car, as I just saw it listed in the Auto trader and noted the price. However, I would imagine that given the small community out here that it would be difficult to hide this information... not to mention that a good PPI should reveal some of these issues... at least I would hope so.

This is true. But you gotta do a PPi regardless of the car. The cost of a proper PPI at the right place, is a very small percentage of the cost of major repairs on a bad car.
