    Hi Everybody,

Thought i'd ask this question here seeing as the UK CS site dont bother to reply!!.
As said in the title, only happens when cold,I know about the the 1st to 2nd gears ,I had a 308 before this one.
But I never noticed this before,is it common for these to crunch only changing down (not up) from 5th to 4th?,when warm, fault dissapears, could this mean that the cables need re-adjusting,or is the box on its way out, done 44k,and well looked after servicing wise.

    Would appreciate any replys
    Thank you

    Rob

I am as far away from being an expert as possible... but, from all my reading here, it sounds like a job for Redline...

    Gear Oil, that is....

Probably a broken spring in the syncro, common in these boxes. Take a look at the parts diagram and you'll see why.

    Hi there!

First i would change the gearbox oil and yes i would use Red Line .
I have seen miracles on my Testarossa and a 328 GTS after using Red Line!!

If you change the oil , you can see if you have some tiny metal parts coming out with the gearbox oil and on the oil plug...

    Are you rev-matching (double clutching/shifting)?
I find that my car shifts much more easily if I do this.

Worst case could be a lost synchro. I've lost my 4 to 3 synchro and must match revs to downshift.

Happened slowly over a year and about 6000km.

I Plan on a full rebuilt later this summer after saving up.

It's the $1 spring in the syncro that does that-it breaks. More expensive to fix than to live with it. All the redline in the world won't fix that spring.

I agree, I would start by changing oil gear with Redline and go from there, hopefully is not the spring ...
