    You're welcome.

It looked pretty good with some elevation changes and all. 50 minutes from New Delhi and right on the highway sounds promising too. Might be reason enough for me one day to visit India.

Nice video. Can't say if the track will be as good as they suggest until the cars run though.
It will be interesting to see how many of those seats are sold.
BTW If there are five thousand of them can we really call them VIPs?

Given the population of India (Mumbai has a pop density more than twice that of NYC) its not as ridiculous as it seems at first but still not what I'd call intimate or personal.
India has fascinated me for years but not as an F1 venue.

I have not been a fan of just about any of the new tracks, but this one has my attention. Looks very interesting. I'm definately excited about this one. Thanks for the link.

I wonder if it's their track design or Tilke's? If it hasn't been "Tilkesized"(if that's a word) yet, I reserve the right to remove all excitement.....

I'm pretty sure this is also a Tilke design.

I think what we are seeing is a learning curve with Tilke: His more recent designs like Turkey, Korea, Austin and India are a lot less convoluted than some of his earlier works (China and Bahrain probably the worst).

You also have to realize that he can only work within strict parameters sometimes given by the land (e.g. Abu Dhabi with the harbor and amusement park) and by the safety concerns (average speed turns).

You didn't read the script? That was by design too...
    ;)

...afterall the FIA declared the Korean GP the most exciting race of the season. And the FIA always is right.

I think I'll wait until the F1 cars are actually running on track before I pass My final judgment!.

It looks like a good track but the problem I have is that too many of these tracks look fantastic when you see the design of the layout and watch the simulations, but once the cars are actually all on track it turns out that there is in reality only one racing line and no one can overtake.
(Not that I'm saying that this is going to be the case with this track but how many of these new circuits have turned out to be a let down when it comes to decent racing?).

Just looking back at this year, I'd say we had terrific races in China, Turkey and Korea. While passing is difficult in Valencia, it was also a spectacular race (thanks Webbo!).

There are lots of "old" tracks, where the racing is boring.

Fact is that every single track on the calendar has at least one passing place. Whether passing actually happens or not IMHO has more to do with the rules for the car design than the tracks themselves.

I'm not a Tilke fan, but quit blaming the man for everything that's wrong with F1.

Every track has a place to pass?
    Tell that to Alonso.

You know I'm a big Alonso fan, but there is no excuse for him to get stuck behind Petrov. That was pathetic. Then again there was also little point in passing Petrov as that by itself wouldn't have helped the title. His goose was cooked with the poor pitstop strategy. Or rather the inability by the team to react to the changing situation caused by MS' accident.

Yeah, that's the ticket: It was MS' fault. ;)

As for passing in Abu Dhabi: I recommend to Alonso to watch a video of the 2009 race and keep an eye on the second Sauber.

PS: Certina (watch sponsor of Sauber) released a new watch in honor of Kobayashi titled "DS Rookie" (dunno what DS stands for). Previously they had a Kubica watch, but no DelaPink watch. Go figure...

PPS: Ok, I have no successfully hijacked my own thread. :)

Are you implying that Alonso didn't really want to pass? While just passing Petrov would not have been enough I think that there is no question that he did his damnedest to do so.

There is also the question of how much of the non-passing is due to the track and how much due to the cars. Personally I think that the talk about "dirty air" is misleading. Any body passing through a liquid or a gas will create a disturbance in its wake. The problem is not so much the creation of turbulence but of modern F1 cars being so dependent on absolutely clean air for grip. Lessen the aero on the front of the cars and they'll have less grip to lose. Problem solved.
Of course there is the small question of how to do that ;)

No, Alonso tried to pass but couldn't. But it is possible at that track as Kobayashi (amongst others) has shown us. Alonso was gun shy and probably also realized the hopelessness of his situation (he would have never made up the time to the next car).

True, some tracks are easier to pass than others. But the design of the cars has a big role in it. Which reminds me to start a new thread (thanks!). :)

    Think nothing of it.
We differ in our assessment of Fernando. I think that given anything resembling a chance to pass he would have gone for it. Or are you saying that he didn't want it enough to shunt Petrov?

As I said, I'm a big Alonso fan and he has made passes where others didn't even think they were possibly (e.g. passing MS on the outside in the wet at Hungaroring). But in Abu Dhabi he was gun shy. Probably too nervous to throw away his championship.

It might be that we are seeing a maturing Alonso: He was equally gun shy on Massa in Melbourne and in Hockenheim. There he was clearly in the points collecting mode and ultimately pulling the #1 driver ace out of his sleeve. I do believe he could have passed Petrov, but was too cautious. After all Petrov had nothing to loose. It is very different whether you take a big risk in passing another WDC contender or a midfielder with no skin in the game.

And (dare I say it) I'm also wondering whether Alonso already peaked as a driver? The horrible mistake of Spa was hard to overlook and I do believe that all these guys have only a very defined period of years where they're top and then the rapid decline begins (without naming names, you know what I mean...).

I'm hoping I'm dead wrong on that point and we'll see a strong Alonso again next year winning the title, but it wouldn't surprise me if his title count remains at two.

Sitting where he was the championship was gone unless he made some passes. This was not a situation where waiting for the race to come to him was viable.
No doubt Alonso has matured both on and off track. IMHO It has only made him faster.

    Hello tifosi12 !!
    Thanks for sharing :)

    Hello kraftwerk!
F1 is being organized by Jaypee group. It's a private venture. Therefore there won't be any mess like Commonwealth Games :).

Preparations for F1 are in full swing.
Recruitment of Track Marshals is in progress.
I have been shortlisted as a probable track marshal and would get the confirmation by Jan 31st if I am in or out :).
    Will keep everybody updated :)

Thanks for bringing the thread back on track and good luck for getting the track marshal job!

It'd be awesome to have a track marshal on FChat giving us the updates on the construction progress etc.

    You are sooooo right!
