    Thank you.

It's a .45 Colt, 4 5/8" barrel. I have the factory letter so it's legit. It has a small amount of nickel wear on the right side of the frame just in front of the cylinder. It is a fun shooter. I have a Marlin 1894 Cowboy model with an octagon barrel, with a Williams peep sight added, and a scoped TC rifle in .45 Colt as well.

I'm only reloading .338 Lapua, .308 Winchester and .45 Colt currently. The turret on my press is out of holes. LOL

This finally came in from Gunbroker this morning: a Cimarron Thunderer in .45 Colt and .45 acp. :)

I am hoping to add a Dillon 550 reloading factory to my shop soon .

How short is that barrel? Does it have an ejector rod?

has the ejector, and it works, I used some resized fired cases in it this morning. Barrel is 3.5 inches, and the grip has an amazing feeling to it. I am looking for a Ruger Vaquero Birdshead in .45 Colt, in Stainless. Not sure how well the .45 acp cylinder is going t work, seems it would need those half moon clip things in it to hold the rims. Will dig up some .45 acp later and try it. Too cold to go to the range.

You may not need moon clips because the gun has an ejector rod. Check how a .45 ACP round chambers. The moon clips are needed in a 1917 type D/A Colt. I might have some full moon clips, and the deal to remove the fired cases without bleeding. Give me a couple of days to find them.

Remember Lead bullets in .45 Colt are .454" .45 ACP are .452" Jacketed bullets are usually .451" for both.

Thank you. I swapped in the .45 acp cylinder, and loaded 5 rounds, everything works and fits ok. i have not fired the gun yet. I was also wondering how they chambered it in both calibers with such a spread in bullet diameters.

The early Ruger Vaqueros benefit from reaming the cylinder throats out, as the .45 Colt guns were too tight. This was fixed with the "New Vaquero".

Man, this short barrel should be "interesting" with a .45 Colt load. I know the old Sheriffs guns had 2-1/2 inch barrels, and they fired blackpowder!

Gonna use the wrap around safety glasses! :)

That actually is a pretty good price for that Colt. Low five digit serial numbers don't surface too often that letter out. The Barrel is too long for me.

I have one that letters to 1888 with wood grips. I only collect the .45 Colts with the 4 5/8" or 4 3/4" barrels.

I'm really looking hard for a 1896 - 1898 1st Generation for my collection. I want one in .45 Colt 4 5/8" barrel, blue and case colored.
They fall into a niche were they are smokeless transitional guns that are true "Antiques" Being pre January 1, 1899.

Check out some Colts here: http://www.gunsamerica.com/Search.htm?C=195&S=2&D=Pistols/Colt-Single-Action-Revolvers-1st-Gen&pagenum=1

I stay away from handguns that have barrels longer than my PP.
That's why I stay in the 4 5/8" to 4 3/4" zone. My P7 PSP that I've carried since '88 has a 4.13" Barrel, But I smoke 7" Cigars.....I wonder what that says about me.

Gunbroker isn't a friendly place for me. I helped out Wally Beinfeld out with a bunch of shows so I have made some of the best contacts on antique firearms and made some great friends.

cool, good to have those connections. I have a local dealer very close to me I use, been seamless so far buying and selling.

Can you imagine having a SAA from 1873 or 1874??? If only they could talk, and I dont mean about hurting people, but just as a witness to history. I love old coins and relics too, hope to get a premium Metal detector for the Spring / summer.

In Antique Firearms the "story" is often worth more than the gun, previous documented ownership to the right person is very valuable.

There are"Colt Sample Displays" at the show that have one of each model for a particular year from around the turn of the century.

The show also features people that exhibit their collections and are judged.

There is some truly amazing stuff at the show.

Also check out http://www.coltcollectors.com/content/nra.shtml a bunch of these guys and their Colts make it to the show.

Come to the show in Las Vegas or hit the Colt 2011 show
September 29 through October 2 in Kansas City, Missouri

The Older Gentleman that are the top Colt collectors are getting fewer, and fewer each year. It is great when you get to talk to some of these guys.

original peacemakers are very pricey. I think $10-20K depending on condition for a working model would not be out of line.

    Replicas?

    Or remakes? Or homages?

Either way, finding an 1870's to 1890's peacemaker is gonna be tough sledding, and take major dollars.

I've shopped for one on and off myself.

Bought a 1911 instead. Always wanted one of those, too!!

If you can find one that was likely actually USED as a "Peacemaker," (traceable to a killing, legal or otherwise) with paperwork to back up the claim (very difficult but not impossible to do as I have seen a couple that looked legit) then twice that price or more is very easly attainable.

Me too. But pretty much gave up. I am convienced there are still lots out there though. Guns don't just dissappear. Most are held in attics or basements and the "owner" doesn't even know they are there or has no idea what they have. That is how my Dad found his origional Pennsylvania Long Rifle; rapped-up and stuffed in the rafters of an antique shop. The owner had no idea what it was or that it was even there. Judging by the layer of dust on the blanket it was rapped up in, it had been there for many years. No, it was NOT loaded, he checked with the ram-rod.

(Will) Have my Grand-Dad's 1911 that was permanently issued to him when he was commissioned during WWI, US Army Signal Air Corps (aka US Air Force). Ahhh, the "good ole days ........."

I have a Colt 1911 that was distributed in Vietnam with no markings other than the serial number. They were marked with a special mark, which was ground off if they were brought back into the US. They were called "Chiang Kai-shek " .45's. CIA or some military branch gave them out. The two I had were used in Cambodia, they were a pair, but I sold one off years ago. Very strange piece. Not worth much though. Shoots great as its made by Colt. Ill have to dig for the pics, I gave it to my father years ago, he still carries it around. ( Has a permit). He was a medic / dental tech in Vietnam with a group of Marines. He was Navy.

sorry for the off topic. I have not thought of that .45 in years. I should clean it and change out the springs for him asap.
