so, i'm just wondering how i can tell if i have an L series-it's a 1970 european GT, so i'm assuming yes-but are there any distinguishing birth marks?

and are L series more valuable?

if your serial number is higher than 01116 then you don't have an L type.

Value? That one I can't help you with.

    bugger...it's 01704...

well, that's answered then! are L's more desirable? i only ask because i was looking at the scottsdale auction catalog, and they have a dino up for sale, 'the more desirable' L series...i was wondering if that was auction bollocks or a reality...

also, in other news, i've just realized mine's a '71..something is really happening to my brain with the advances of old age! let's pretend this conversation never happened..

The early L cars were produced in MUCH smaller quantities......rarity drives the value..

PLUS those cool knock off wheels Tom S. mentioned, LOL!

    Your secret is safe here.....

Mine had knock off wheels using a lead spanner, a button for the trunk release, no headrests, white flush mounted front indicator lights, and yellow tail indicator lights, and small side indicator lights in the front fenders instead of the DOT side indicator lights, and no outside rearview mirrors. Oh, and the gauges were in Italian with markings in Kilometers and Centigrade.

Mine also had electric windows which I believe was unusual. They were slow -- but they always worked.

At the time I sold it, it was "just another Dino". I never heard of L series until years later.

I knew it was a full Euro though. I couldn't get it registered legally in California which is one of the reasons I sold it. All my tricks to register it over the years were finally used up as CA inacted new laws every year cutting down on smog fraud. I actually feared the EPA would destroy it once because it never had the proper importation papers. I thought some wise guy at a Smog station would turn me if for a reward.

After years of hearing from "Ferrari people" how much better the 308 was, it's a bit refreshing that Dino's finally got their final revenge in the used car market.

BTW: I did sell mine for twice the value you could get a 308 at the time.-- #00908.

Just to complete bdelp's list, interior of Tipo L also had passenger foot rest and handle along door sill, lever switches along center column behind stick, no door pouches, tilting seat adjusters, only two release arms for gas cap and rear engine bonnet, and narrow(er) bumpers (same as 206GT's). w/ smiles Jimmy #00508

    Cool...
Dino Club Germany has #1706 (the next one built after yours...even #'s only)
Mine is #1712, built in March 1971 and therefore a 1971 model (Euro GT)

The L-Series at the Gooding auction is owned by Tom Shaughnessy. I've seen it. Looks like a really nice honest car with few needs. Been described to me as matching numbers, really good driving, great power and shifting. Paint was it's weakest point. The previous owner is a passionate Dino collector/owner. I've had both an early L-Series(*0474*) and currently an E-Series(*03932*). Loved the "L-Series" and it's unique details but I have to say I love my "E-Series" just as much! My conclusion is the most valuable Dino is the one in your garage!

    That´s what I thought too :)
Now I know my even the Dino next to mine on the line at Ferrari.

@philt68: Why do you think your #1704 is from 1970?

    Regards Nicolai

    Some other notable "L" differences

Exterior door locks located in a different position
Head rests mounted on the rear bulk head, as against being part of the seat.
Different brakes than the M & E series
Shares the same gear box as the 206 only
    Different back-up lights.
    Different glove box (I believe)
    Different horn button
    Magnesium rims
    Different cam covers (also magnesium)
    Different exhaust than M & E
    Goes faster (ok, maybe not)

Anyone need a very slightly used Stebro for an "L"?
