Wasn't quite sure where to put this thread: Europe, F1, racing, general since it has a bit of everything.

I had the pleasure of getting invited to visit the autobau museum in Romanshorn, Switzerland near the border to Germany/Austria (www.autobau.ch). This is not a public museum, but a private collection which can only be visited on certain days/by appointment.

On four floors of a restored factory there are racing and road cars. Lots of Ferraris and many exotics in general. Here some shots:

Monteverdi yes, but not the Hai. I've never seen it IRL.

I take it you know Fredy from his racing here in the States?

Oops, my bad. 375 SS. Guess they made only two Hai.

Yep. The epitome of the "gentleman driver," meant in the best way.

His support of the sport internationally has helped a LOT of people.

That is a fantastic collection. What a great opportunity. I love how varied the collection is.

I noticed the formula car simulator in there too..... did you get to drive it? We recently did a custom job for someone based off of a modern Ferrari show car. Good fun.

I didn't have enough time to play with it: my allotted time was an hour in between two other groups. They do biz events there.

And yes, that's a nice base for a static sim.

Great photos. Great subject matter, but the photos were well taken too.

Looks like the place is open one Sunday a month or you can make other reservations.

Already added to the Switzerland list for a future trip.

    LOL

Since I had to pry myself away from my PS3 playing GT5 to go on this trip, I had flashbacks of the game as I was strolling through this empty museum: It felt like being in the GT5 showroom and selecting a car with a mouse click to take it for a spin through the adjacent test track...

The wide variety of sports and racing cars was very cool. My pics don't even show all the cars. For next years they are expanding the place with customer "garages" where owners can "store" their exotics in climate controlled and ultra safe environments. That should make it even more interesting for future visitors to go there.

I was also pleased to see some of the Sauber race cars on display: Those are normally only visible to VIPs from the Sauber F1 team, locked away in their showroom in Hinwil. Maybe with the place's expansion more of those will be visible to the public going forward. Peter has about 20 F1 cars by now and before that all the famous Group C Mercs.

I don't think so. At least the Sauber F1 and the Sauber race cars are probably on loan.

    You're welcome.

Amazing array of cars. EB110, Vector, M1 are the 3 stand out road cars I saw the Miura the white SL convertible and the F40 also make my naughty bits tingle. The race hardware is stellar as well.
