drowsiness & no alcohol .. not for me ... I use Zirtec almost daily hard to argue against you there Audi now I understand!
welcome to Fchat .. why don't you tell us a little something about yourself? are you particularly interested in the older Ferrari's or is it simply a budget issue? If it's the later then I suggest you do a lot of homework, coz cheap may not be cheap and may turn out to be very expensive, and Audi, Tim & Jon are our Fchat experts on such matters. I also wudnt put Dino's in the same category as 348's or 308's .. price wise they're in the same league as 430's & there's only 3 left in Singapore
Thanks for the tip but I'm trying klasid for the persistent cough but still got a bit of grogginess from flu. Not good
Hot brandy? Not really my cup of teh! Besides might not wake up for Sunday and u know how voting is compulsory, your vote is secret etc
Welcome but I have a sad news. Just had dinner with an insurance agent & he said that MAS will start to make sure that old cars are written off beginning of 2011. They have already started with COE & then insurance is next. For cars that are older than 20yrs old, almost all if not all insurance companies will only issue 3rd party coverage which means you cannot take loan since finance companies will mandate that you take up min. 3rd party+fire & theft with them as the beneficiary. So, it is still possible to insure your classic only unless you pay full cash! And, they are increasing premium as well. Bad news for owners who wants to sell their valuable COE cars because your buyer will need to be cash rich. I was eyeing that Bentley Turbo R but only one insurance company wants to take it up @ 3rd party for S$4K+ Yucks! However, if you have good NCD. Maybe you can still bargain your way through. If you're keen on cheap entry into Ferrari & prefer classics. Kopiokosong's silver/red Mondial is a very good deal & not advertised. I'm keen too but kept distracted by other cars
Absolutely agree! I'm wondering why is it that with all the wealth here, nobody has imported an important Ferrari or a similar make? Surely a 275GTB, 512 Boxer, Miura & the like will cost well below a million or two to register & oozes more class+taste than any modern exotic.
i think the whole car ownership and maintenance scene here just doesnt make it easy to consider forking out big money for a $1m-2m classic ferrari. frankly i think the high value classic ferraris are always going to be something like garage queens with temp controlled garages, used sparingly for glamour events and shown off at concourse events. they will require quite bespoke maintenance and expert technical backup ,all this is not yet available here. somemore here u have to put under classic car scheme, cant drive it much even if you wanted to.plus singaporeans are basically pragmatic -just get a daily user ultra supercar ,much easier to upkeep and get much more mileage, literally and figuratively
I'll be in Singapore in March for a few days. Would love to meet local members and see some beautiful vehicles.
I was driving pass TG's house the other night & his new neighbour (further-in) has a spanking garage as well. A red 512M was parked right in front of the main entrance & it looked gorgeous. Surely, a half-a-million pound vintage will be a wonderful investment+sculpture than the Reventon Roadster? Agree with you on the maintenance side & it's made worse being a dying trade here. My Swiss friend who owns several classic Astons parks his cars in a warm garage & has a mechanic to maintain them while he only takes them out on a quarterly basis. Was reading up Rowan Atkinson's column in Octane & he commented that cars are meant to be driven or raced by privateers as we have all the passion to maintain & use them. Once they are bought by estate or museum, it's the end of it's life consigned to being watched....
Mate too much money, too little real knowledge of the classics. Simple. Singapore is still a "new is better" society... By the way have you read Rewind magazine.... hopefully this will be the beginning of the classic car movement taking on big in Singapore. As for MAS writing off old cars.... I dont quite understand. If you can afford to pay the premium, an old valuable car will still be kept on the road, regardless of COE and insurance premium surely. Look at Doc Billy Wong.... he has opted to go down the classic car route and thank goodness there are guys like him around. A true Porsche fanatic from the classic era. And I think its a matter of time before an ultra rich guy realises the classics are a great way to enjoy ones excess cash (and one needs excess cash to get into them for sure). I remember the fantastic line from Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicholas Cage... he was at the Ferrari showroom and they showed him a (at the time new) 355. He said he wasnt interested in a car he could spot at the corner Starbucks store and anyone could buy. So they brought him to a warehouse filled with 275GTBs etc...
Hey guys, Wanting a 348 or a Mondial is for the boxy yet curvy look and them Flip up headlights! Always had a thing for that classic look. Thats why I owned a S13 sometime back. Not a budget issue actually. Love the 458 Italia too and will be waiting for the Spyder version and will have one in the garage when it comes out, wife permitting that is...hahahaha. Bro with the Mondial, yours is not advertised? Is it for sale? Pls SMS 91462309 so that I can maybe have a chat with you about the details? Thanks or all the infomation so far. God Bless
Can't give you advice on classic Ferrari's but if you are planning to get a 458 spider, you better give Ital a deposit soon. You will have to wait from 6 months to 1 yr if you have not given them a deposit yet.
The 348 for sale used to belong to me many years ago before it had the errrr strange mods put on it (rear wing/faux carbon roof and other oddities). That yellow one had one of the best shifting gearboxes of all the 348s... and a wonderful original challenge exhaust.
Haven't got the time to read the last two issues! I'm eagerly waiting for the Changi track to be ready so we'll see more track oriented cars here & it'll be great if we can do a LeMans Classic style event here too. Well, the govt just wants less clutter on the road so by increasing your expenses, only the wealthy can afford to keep cars & the fate of older "classics" are definitely due for scrapyards There was this guy who brought in a number of classics to sell but they've all gone MIA since the COE skyrocketed. Even our enthusiasm here has been watered down.
So the buggy has a rocket cover oil leak which I am told is not covered by warranty due to wear & tear .. which I find completely ridiculous. What is the point of a warranty if it doesn't cover such things? It seems the warranty is only good if the car is a garage queen & not driven. I guess I've found my new year's resolution .. sell the buggy!! Anyone interested??
Just saw your rear end, I mean your car's rear end when I was picking mine up 2 hours back. Didn't have time to ask what happened since I was sorting though my own issues. But isn't the 430 generally a very reliable car somewhat like the 355 ? But seriously, the issues that surround the buggy shouldn't be happening on a regularly driven and maintained modern Ferrari. Will be sad to see her go, that matt red is associated with you!
It's meant to be in for a regular service and some warranty parts installation .. the buggy has been mechanically reliable for the most part .. but I just don't understand the point of the warranty if it doesn't cover something like an oil leak.
Go buy a 308 if there are any for sale. Beauty and grace + extremely reliable and not expensive to maintain by F car standard. If none for sale, then my friend's very loud Mondial is avail !
