I have finally pulled the trigger after years of lurking. Been a Corvette guy for a long time but I always knew that one day I'd have a Ferrari and that time has come.

After 2 Z06's and my current '10 ZR1 I have decided to step up and get a F430. 2006 Rosso Corsa F1 with beige interior. Car already has Capristo exhaust and cats as well as carbon fiber rear and front diffusers. Now the wait begins, expected delivery is Friday 1/7. I've actually never driven one yet but feel confident that I'm going to like the F1. Is there anything that I need to know?

Congrats. The first ride will be fantastic. Don't ease up off the throttle for a gear change. The computer will do that for you. Just keep your foot down at a constant pressure and select the next gear. The computer will ease the throttle just a bit as the clutch and transmission complete the gear change. You're gonna love the downshifts! They sound awesome!

Warm her up a bit.... put it in Race mode, and run the RPM to 8500 before shifting to 2nd.

You'll find out what the all magic is about.

Good luck with the new machine! :)

Congrats! I too was a vette owner for many many years and I even have a sponsor brick at the Corvette Musuem. But there is nothing like a Ferrari! The joy of driving that is unsurpassed. In all the years I owed a vette, NOT ONCE did i ever go in the garage and say "wow, i own a vette". Can't say the same for the Ferrari; the history, the lines, the design - the Ferrari is art in motion!

I'm glad to hear that. I was a little nervous at first because the ZR1 is such a great car and buying a used car is a little nerve racking. I feel better and better about it. I know the Ferrari is in a whole different class and I'm excited to have one.

Thanks for the advice on the F1. I'm a little nervous about that part. Hope I don't miss the stick.

I've always been a sports car freak and have owned several Corvette's including a C6Z06. I got my F430 a week ago and can't stop driving it. You're going to love the driving position and feel. If you've ever driven an NSX then that's how the driver position feels. It's so much fun... enjoy it!

You're going to love driving your 430 when you get it.
    I owned a black/tan 2006 F430 F1 for 3.5 years (sold it about 8 months ago).

Here is another F1 driving tip for you. When you slow down such as coming up to a red light, you can either manually downshift as you slow or let the F1 computer do it. If you manually downshift, only go as low as 2nd gear, always let the computer put it into 1st gear when it comes to a complete stop. 1st gear is too low for a moving downshift and, if the red light suddenly turns green, the car has plenty of power in 2nd gear to accelerate nicely through the light (even if you were nearly stopped and the car was about to put itself into 1st gear).

Give yourself 5 - 10 drives in the car to get good and smooth at working the F1. Your very first drive in the car is going to seem jerky. Don't assume it will stay that way, you'll get 10 times smoother very quickly. You'll learn to anticipate every upshift and downshift. I kept my car in the "Sport" manettino setting pretty much all the time.

Good luck and post lots of pics of your new car when you get it.

Also, if you ever get a chance to drive your F430 at a track event, it is a great car for that.
I took mine to a local track (Summit Point) a handful of times and had a blast.
The car is so stable through the turns and will continue to accelerate all the way down the straight-aways.

One piece of advice. If you're ever gonna floor the gas pedal to see what happens, make sure the car is pointing STRAIGHT when you do it! A 430 changes into a completely different beast above 5000 rpm. It will bite you hard if you floor it while trying to make a 90-degree corner at an intersection. The car fools a lot of people because it is so well-behaved in normal traffic at lower rpm settings. There are several youtube video clips of owners losing control when showing off a little bit, especially when they are going around a slow corner.

You're going to have a great new year in your 430 - enjoy it.

Here is a pic of me in my black 430 on the track.

Congrats!! What a way to start off year 2011!! I like the Corvette quite a bit and love the sound of the engine under full throttle and for the money I think they are a good buy. However, there is something missing and sometimes to me the car feels a bit awkward. I think you will find your F430 to be more of an extension of your body. And when you hear that V8 under full throttle it kind of all comes together... passion...

Wait for the oil temperature gauge to get up to 140dF before getting it on.

Another tip for a louder exhaust without going aftermarket:

Take out the two tubes running to the by-pass valves in the muffler and plug the tubes up with a metal bolt. Use a plastic tie to keep the tubes from bouncing around.

    The result:

Instant noise and no more schizophrenic muffling at different speeds.

    +1. Great sounding that way.

Also, keep your car on a Battery Tender trickle charger (if it didn't come with a factory charger). The Battery Tender brand comes with two lead wires - one with clamps and one with eye bolt holes. Your battery is under the passenger floorboard. Hook up the lead with the eye bolt holes to the battery terminals and tuck the connector up under the dash - under the passenger side of the dash. Then, to hook up the charger, set the charger on the passenger floor, hook up the charger's lead to the quick-connect lead under the dash, and run the a/c wire to the charger out the door or cracked window. Keep the doors closed while charging.

Also, learn how to check the oil level. Car must be warmed up first and kept idling while you check the dipstick. You'll learn to loosen the oil cap to just finger-tight status when the engine is cold before start-up. Also, an oven mitt helps too. :)

And don't let pretty girls sit on the hood! It bends easily.

I had a nsx back in 91 and it also has a nice ride like the nsx, especially compared to a vette. Never drive the 430 in auto mode.

I'm tagging along to see how you like the 430. I just sold my last toy, a 2006 Dodge Viper and am interested in a Ferrari. I've had 4 vettes and 2 Vipers and looking for a mid engine and like the 430. Like you, I am wondering if i will miss driving a manual if I go with an F1 paddle shift version.

Good luck with you new ride. Enjoy!

Even though you've never driven one, you will not be disappointed. There is nothing like it.
Wait until you hit the 'start' button the first time.

    Congrats.

He should know how to check the oil already since his ZR1 has a dry sump system as well.

How about those little skid plates mounted underneath to protect the front corners of the 430 on steep driveways?
Good Luck with your new 430 ride!
