My friend is looking at a 2000 Boxster with 30000 miles at $18,500 or to trade.
    Is this agood price?
What areas are problematical in this model?

    I've had one for about a year now. It's a 2001 Boxster S. I bought it with 62k for $15.5.

2001-04 models have less issues with the IMS but the problem is still there. Usually if the IMS is going to fail, it will do so before 70k miles. (IMS failure will kill your engine = $$$$$)

IMO I wouldn't pay that much for a 2000 Base model just because it has low miles. If I were him I would buy a post 2000 model with some decent miles that is in good shape.

PM me if you have any questions, I've done a lot of research on these things over the past year.

The best forums to do some reading are 986forum.com, rennlist.com, and renntech.org.

I've seen 00's with just a bit more mileage changing hands around $10k. Didn't realize they were going to be close to 944 pricing so soon...

I would say its priced much too high as well...by several thousand.

Kelley Blue Book is $16,250. But it seems the market is quite depressed and I would expect to pay even less than that.

I could have bought an 04 at the auction this week with 33k miles, and it was a very well equipped base boxster. Sport seats, li-tronics, 18 inch color matched wheels etc... it need two tires etc... for 14900... it failed its post sale inspection... but I was expecting to sell it around the 17-18 figure...

thats far too much money for a 2000... you should barely be into the teens on a car like that
