I have the opportunity to pick up a 2004 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (Black/Black) that has a 'Rebuilt' title, and according to the CarFax sustained 'severe' damage. I know the car from the previously local owner of it, and know the caretakers of the car who did the rebuild, and the car seems to drive out without any issues. It needs a major service done, but I am wondering what to even consider paying for this car? The caretaker of the car is also the guy who does all of my car detailing (and I have known him for several years), and he has driven the car several times and said it is solid, and has less than 2,000 miles from what he remembers.

So, any ideas on where to even start on a ballpark number?

    Apparently that CS finally sold.

FYI - Flag car wasn't TDF... it was originally red then painted ALL black + flag.

So in terms of hard dollars, what range are we talking about for this assuming clean overall condition and in need of major service?

The salvage title and need for a major puts it in the $60-$70K range.

Does anyone know how severe the damage on this car was, it states that the damage exceeded the economic value of the car at that point, driven less than a 1000 miles it must have been a very big damage then.

One would have to go over that car with a fine toothed comb. Anything can be fixed, but that title will be scared for life...... But at the right price it could be palatable.

There is a 13K mile car in SoCal that received a salvage title for very little damage to the floor pan, and the owner is extremely firm at $109K...... and it has been for sale for over a year at that price. I drove that car and it was great, but the title makes it a tough sell. I felt that car was a $75K car. If this suffered 'severe' damage, it is worth much less in the real world.

I spoke with someone involved with the rebuild. Evidently it was purchased with only around 112 miles on the odometer as a total because the first owner had wrecked it and ripped the back half of the car off. It was rebuilt after that.

The body shop says it seems to not have issues and your detaler says it's solid. Are you serious?? Before I would ever consider such a car, which I wouldn't, you better believe it would be fully inspected by a professional Ferrari only collision shop and then sent to a professional Ferrari tech for a mechanical and electrical inspection. Curious as to why you would have interest in this potential can of worms?

I will be in Scottsdale next week for a couple of car auctions... looking at this f360 the fine print reads that it has a salvage title was sondering if anyone on here know its history

Bidders are advised that this vehicle has a title marked as “rebuilt,” indicating that at some point the car received damage that exceeded the economic value of the vehicle to repair at that point, but that the noted damage has since been repaired. Additionally, the second owner has made a note on the car’s CarFax that the damage was “severe.” Neither RM nor the seller knows the nature or extent of the damage incurred to the vehicle, and consequently, bidders are advised to satisfy themselves as to the condition of the lot before bidding.

a few potential problems that may cause a serious headache and regrets down the line:

    1) salvage title cars are RARELY perfect...you can bet your last dollar this car had some major issues thus the super low miles.

    2) this is probably the most important factor to consider...when buying from MECUM, BARETT JACKSON, RM, CHRISTIES and the other 'collector' auctions, you are offered ABSOLUTELY no protection against the purchase unless the car is TMU. That means if the engine is blow youre shiiit out of luck... bad tranny? tough shiiit.... frame damage?? oh well.

despite of all that id pay 50k all day long *** it why not.

Yes, the car was heavily damaged, but the super low mileage was mainly because the previous owner had about 75 cars. Hard to put miles on a car when you have dozens of them.

I am with you though. $50k seems to be a no brainer if you plan to drive the car. I am thinking it is a good deal because then I would not feel bad driving it, putting miles on it, and tracking it. Because at that point, if you wreck it, who cares?

I remember seeing this car at the drive and open house he had a few summers ago. If I remember correctly, i believe quite of a few of his cars (modern ones in the lower garage) were damaged before hand and had salvage titles on them including the DBAR1 and the Carrera GT.

Is this the guy that buys wrecked exotics and then fixes them up? Didn't he fix up a Veyron?
