Pasted from another thread, just want to hear from folks who know what they are talking about.

"On the ownership side the 430's have a list just as long as the early 360's of recalls, campaigns and known trouble areas.

One of the more obvious issues is related to F1 system hydraulic leaks causing a myriad of symptoms and troubles."

    Any insight would be appreciated........Thanks.......Steve

Steve- Comments like that are usually made by people using posterior references. I would not worry about it.

So what if it was true? That would mean it was in a tie for first place of all the Ferrari ever built.

Not a bad place to be.

I did do a search, both here and on the internet, and found nothing to back up the statement that F430 F1 systems were endemically prone to leaks.....Steve

Are you impugning the alacrity of those who seemingly have endless opinions presented as statements of fact. As if in the end, it is all twaddle??????

I would not even consider a car that gets over 10 MPG if driven per its persona combined with extreme alacrity.......Steve

    Steve -

Not up to speed on the "latest" since I sold my 430, but I bought a 2006 430 F1 in late 2007 and had seen some postings about a potential recall related to the high pressure hydraulic line on the F1 gear box. I bought my car from Ferrari of Newport Beach (good folks to deal with in my experience) and brought the issue up to them. They were surprised that I had heard anything about it and indicated that Ferrari did not have a recall but had quietly informed dealers to watch the issue. It turned out that my car did have a small issue with the hydraulic line and it was replaced under warranty. Good luck.

Guys, FWIW, the quote in question was made by Josh of Exotic Car Specialties right here in Northern Virginia. The guy has an constant stream of F cars and Lambo's in his shop. I've had some work done there and intend to have more done there. If you want backup to what he said, suggest you simply ask him directly. He's a nice guy. I've heard one bad review since working with him, but that came from a corvette guy in another shop and it was over a friend of a friend, if you see where that's going. I don't know Josh that well, but he's done good with what I've given him so far, and has plenty of exotic customers. I don't think he would put that out there and not be ready to back it up. Might want to just ask him directly what his sources are.

I did ask the OP of this comment for any objective info to back up the statement. But he did not respond back. So I figured I would ask the general population as to thier experience.......Thanks......Steve

Not sure about the F1 system but I personally saw a 430 Spider catch on fire in the engine bay when the hydraulics for the top sprung a leak and sprayed fluid on the exhaust. Thankfully it was at a carshow and a nearby exhibitor had a fire extinguisher.

The top hydraulics has nothing to do with the F1 hydraulic system...

I apologize, I post regularly and don't always re-check a thread multiple times and follow up. If you'd really like a specific answer from me directly a PM is the best way to get one.

The information I share is from a combination of my experience working with the cars and conversations I have with colleagues around the country working on the cars in both independent shops and dealer shops.

If you'd like I'll replace the comment about the F1 system with a comment about exhaust tip brackets or exhaust header replacement...however I feel that particular bit is one of the greater items to be aware of. Unlike the others it can cause the car to go into a "safe" mode and leave you sitting where ever you may be.

I appreciate you getting back to me. I know that as cars get more advanced in thier systems, many more expensive things can go wrong with them.

I had done what I thought was a lot of research and did not find anything that made me think the F1 system was a weak link on the F430.

Clutch wear and replacement are expensive and I am OK with that, but I felt that Ferrari had made real strides with the F430 as to general maintainability and reliability, with the full knowledge that it is an F-Car and not a P-Car.

So all is good and I will drive mine a lot, maintain it as required and fix it when it when all hell breaks loose........Thanks......Steve

    No prob.

I'll never forget that day. The car literally had less than 1,000 miles on it. As soon as he went to put the top up a line split or a connection came loose and the hyd fluid hit something hot. It was surreal. The owner was beside himself. Sadly the car left on a flatbed to Shelton before the show was even over.
