Now that Austin is on the official FIA calendar, will the race really happen?

  1. Yes, it will happen.

  2. No, no way for construction to finish.

he is getting into the fashion industry. before you laugh, remember that's where briatore came from. ok, now you can laugh.

his assistant is the guy who was pushing hurley to remain involved. AFAIK he is still trying to connect some F1 dots. something may come of it, i guess we'll see next year.

Old news.....but I suppose if Bernie's site repeats the local paper a few days late that must make it true.....

    either...

    1) had to technically "break ground" to keep some contractual obligations met

    or

    2) had to technically "break ground" to keep the press from pummeling them

I think that those were my comments when the announcement was made.
    I want to believe but...

    LOL

I love how it's a picture of a single bulldozer in the middle of a huge dirt field... not exactly the type of scene you'd picture for a multi-billion dollar (?) Formula 1 venue construction site.

I think item 2) to be more the reason. As there was no "gold shovel" nor was the govenor or the state comptroller nor any other of the folks that have been behind the scenes with the local/state governments. The local press, car clubs, construction companies all have been relentless in pumping for info and "when".

I had a bigger ground breaking ceremony complete with Govenor, Mayor, Sherif, Constable, Cty Tax collector and "gold shovel" for the Maycor distribution center in Milan Tennessee and it was only a 500k sqft distribution center for Maytag. I'll bet you there will be an "official" ceremony soon.

The whole process has been very unconventional putting it politically correct.

I seem to remember reading that they are expecting 120k attendance the weekend of the race. Heck, I think that many people from Houston and Dallas desend on New Braunfels on an average summer weekend. If only a portion of those people are curious enough to attend the race, along with all the F1 fanatics from the US and overseas, they they shoudn't have any issue filling the stands. I know I'm buying my tickets as soon as they are available.
