    I just purchased an LP400S, under the advice of Mr. Sackey.
    I believe without having seen or driven the car that it is one of the best Countachs of
    all time. Low body, carburated engine, an ansa exhaust, must be fantastic.
    Can't wait to drive the car, but winter is not helping

    Now I hope you can make it Fathers Day 2011 at the Farmington Polo Ground, Farmington, Connectciut for the Ferrari and Friends Concorso. It is a Lamborghini show as well.

    I was wondering whether this car would be an S2 or an S3. The car is from 1980, so I'd say an S2 with 375ch, but the ad says 353ch, which would be 40mm Weber, so an S3.

    Or, ... are some S2 equipped with 40mm Weber ?

    Found somewhere on the internet, confirmation of what I thought was the truth :

    Esistono ben 3 serie diverse di LP400S:
    * S1: tetto basso, assetto basso, cerchi Campagnolo "Bravo" in magnesio, Weber 45mm 375cv, (50 esemplari)
    * S2: tetto basso, assetto basso, cerchi Campagnolo lisci in magnesio,Weber 45mm 375cv
    * S3: tetto alto, assetto alto, cerchi Campagnolo lisci in magnesio, maggior peso e carburatori Weber da 40 mm 353 CV


    Though the seller of the car confirmed a few minutes ago it was Weber 40 fitted in it... ???


    What if I put 45mm Weber on it ? Something else needs any tuning ?

    Hum, not a lot of people around there these days ;-)

    Since I'm here, may I ask what you think the prices of S2 and S3 cars should be ?
    I would have expected $90K, but it seems it's more the prices of the 25th anniv. QV now.

    stlouis, many of the L-section regulars are still out and about on holiday type stuff.

    The car looks like an S2 to me. It is possible the seller copied the specifications for the later car from a magazine or website thinking they were selling an S3...

    Though he confirmed to me that the carbs were 40mm... This is why I'm wondering whether there would be S2s with 40mm carbs... ?

    If you can get a chassis number (1121_ _ _ ) we can tell you S2 or S3.

    40mm or 45mm carbs do not make the series, the body size does.

    Since there is no exact cut off, there may be S2 cars at the end of the run that were made with 40mm carbs.

    Weber is still in business and if you want to put 45mm on the car it will work.

    This car is 1121158. An S2 car, right ? At least, it's what I had noted in my tablets, and ILR says the same. So, a Low Body.

    Regarding the engine, I'm afraid you're loosing me.
    I thought the cars fitted with the 40's were outputting 353ch, while the ones with the 45's would give 375... ? Is there something beyond just the carbs ? Like valves openings ?

    What else has changed between the two series ?

    That car by chassis number is an S2, it should have 45mm carbs on it.

    A number of cars before and after that chassis number have been through my shop and all have had 45mm carbs.

    That said, it does not mean that it is not possible that it left the factory that way, it just does not follow the norm....

    Joe will be so proud of me for saying that last part :)

    Yes, but was the use of 40mm carbs a factory build feature... or a privateer conversion... :D

    What would be the incentive for killing the engine with a weaken input ?

    My friend has 1121288 (swiss car) and he had 40mm carbs, I think it was due to emission limits that they changed for lower diameters.

    That poses a question; What changes were made to get grey market Countach cert'd for US roads? It can't just be the ugly bumpers...

    Could it be that this is the famous #1121030?
    Since it is described as LP400S Prototype, the first real LP400s is shown on the production line, the car has a CH-sticker and I have pictures of suspicously this car with VD-Plates (Vaud at Lac Leman where the swiss importer Codeco SA resided).
