Does a 430 ever need a cam belt service? Please let me know, thanks!

The 430 cam belts should be changed in the exact same intervals as the 360 cam chains !!!

    Just kidding .. ;)

The 430 uses chains not belts to drive the cam shafts, hence, not belts to change.

As far as changing the chains ? Ask Rifledriver !!!!!!

    Regards,

    Stew

Another reason I went with the 430 vs 360.

Me as well, but I have to admit the 360 is a bit better looking at the rear in my eyes.

Quick question...Does the 458 have the same chain setup or chains at all? I haven't heard much about this. Any info would be appreciated. Im guessing it has a chain.

The camshafts are in fact chain driven. The 458 engine is just an evolution of the 430, so the core systems similar.

Rob- Here is what the chain drive looks like on the Scud and California, and the 458 is very similar, I assume. Was going to use an image out of the 458 owners manual, but it has about as much technical data as my Mom's Buick OM. In the olden days, you could just about maintain a Ferrari using the owners manual. Not any more.

Thanks for the picture. I wasn't expecting that. You contribute more than your fair share to this forum.

The move from belts to chains is what really tipped me to pony up for the F430. Even though I agree that the 355 and 360 are very handsome cars.

The F430 requires maintenance, but it should be much more predictable and lower cost over time, barring some catastrophic failure.

Just feel that the F430 has a great chance of being dependable as an F-Car has ever been.......Steve

So the normal maintenance cost should be much less right? Is the maintenance schedule the same as a 360?

Steve --- The operative word is "chance" ;) I admire your optimism, though :)

Same opinion here - much easier to get access in 360...
