Aloha gentlemen. I haven't been around much lately, been out of the country and such.

However, I'm back, and the legendary R/T has just been traded in. :(

Saw a black Gallardo in Kanata last night near Centrum plaza. No front plate but it had a Mark Motors licence plate cover on the back.

What did you trade it in on? Is it a Mazda?

Yep... '09 Mazda3 GT 5-speed. It's black on black leather, has the moonroof and Bose package, and will be getting my custom sound system, Viper alarm, and 17% tint on Friday.

So I'm driving home tonight after watching the Juniors give up 5 goals in the third when I spot an unmarked cop car pulled over on Dorval in Oakville. And here's the kicker... It was an older model maroon minivan! Most unmarked cars I've seen in the past were new cars with funky antennas but this one blended right in. Spooky.

Ha! As if the Ford Crown Victoria's didn't handle poorly enough!

The best disguise I've ever seen was in New York City. I saw a taxi cab driving down the street, and all of a sudden a siren and flashing lights came on. That one sure outsmarted everyone!

Haha nice! That one could fool people by the sign on top, but the one I saw was actually a yellow taxi cab! Totally threw me off guard. :D

Was that picture taken just off Guelph St (Hwy 7) in Georgetown?

If memory serves, this picture appeared in the Wheels section of the Toronto Star a short time ago. I think it was linked with an article written by Jim Kenzie about radar traps and I think it might have been taken in Mississauga?

I think this sort of thing is abhorrent. Unmarked cars are one thing, but disguising a police vehicle to resemble a taxi is taking it to another level. This sort of thing in my opinion, ought to be banned outright.

Perhaps the answer would be to disguise your car as a PD patrol vehicle. Then the "taxis" might leave you alone....:)

    Hahaha!

Now that's a very creative solution to the problem. I've only ever had one ticket, so collecting them isn't my problem. I just think it's a tad underhanded to disguise a police vehicle as a cab.

I'll have to call and ask what the Top Gear boys are up to...they're pretty good at building their own police cars.

That IS a great idea! Plus, when people see your car, they will all drive the speed limit because they don't want a ticket. You will be the only one who can drive over!

I did this. I used to drive a dark grey Chrysler Intrepid. I had tinted windows and the winter of 2007 I drove it on steelies with snow tires.

I had a "Police Interceptor" badge on the trunk from a Crown Vic, I had a magnetic CB antenna on the trunk, and people used to brake around me on the 401 as well.

Funny enough, I also installed the rear police strobe-light module from a Police Package Intrepid... I had to flip a switch inside the center console and the rears would flicker like an unmarked cruiser. It was awesome for when people would tailgate me for no reason.

The whole setup was awesome. Then I grew up.

Yeah, you'd be shafted pretty hard if a real cop saw that.

Well aware of that one. As I said, I was 17-18 and stupid... then I grew up. :p

To be honest though, other than the strobe lights, nothing could be ticketable as impersonation. Plenty of cabs and retired cop cars (Crown Vics, Impalas, Intrepids) are driving around with the Police Interceptor badge, tint, and steelies.
