Black/Tan TR for $36k?

Beautiful car- some miles but looks great and freshly serviced... Great wheels and the shifter/steering wheel is easy fix as are the headrests.

Market this bad or was this a steal?

I was looking at that this morning. It has the same color combo and wheels as my
348 which suits these cars nicely. If my business and the economy wasn't so bad
there would have been another bidder!

Apparently once ANY Ferrari travels more than 20,000 miles it must be immediately destroyed...

Bargains for drivers for sure...Two year old major for $36K...gimme a break!

I was watching it but honestly didn't think it would go for $36 or I would have been in also. Hope we have a new friend on FerrariChat and it was a great deal!

 

I doubt this car really sold for that.
It'll show back up on ebay in a couple of days because the winning "bidder" copped out.

 

I bet that it's not gona sell for what the limit is set for.... We will see this car listed elswere again...

 

Its not the mileage that will kill the market for that car. Its been modified up the wazoo, and some of those modifications some might find distasteful and difficult/expensive to undue--ie the glass engine cover with the black light, the racing steering wheel, and the sound system. The fact that the seats have been recovered but are not factory correct would also knock out a portion of the market as well as the non-oem wheels.

Other modifications indicate a car that may have been driven rather hard and owned by somebody fairly flamboyant. IE--the floormats and shift knob. Anyone who spent that kind of money making an already flashy car that much flashier, probably enjoyed trying to bring attention to himself, which I can only imagine included burnouts in the parking lot....and we all know how much TR transmissions enjoy that.

If I was in the market for a Testarossa, I still would give this car a look, but I don't think its price is indicative of the Testarossa market, even at this mileage point.

 

I'll offer this counterpoint regarding the Momo steering wheel, the shift knob (is it from Hill Engineering?) and the floor mats. Maybe the previous owner, over time, added these small accessories to the car out of boredom, just to enjoy the look and feel of something different. After all, there are very few other areas of the car that can be "modified" with off-the-shelf parts, unlike the average late-model Mustang or Camaro.

 

Totally possible and I take no issue with his choice to modify his own car how he pleases. However, its the same reason you "stage" your house when you put it up for sale. He's limiting his market and opening up his car to comments like I made above.

Years ago, I had my old place on the market, I didn't get the price I wanted until I begrudgingly took my WWII rifle off the wall. I thought it was interesting, but buyers tend to like vanilla, start throwing sprinkles in, and you limit the market.

Just my .02 of course.

 

Good point Joe. Returning the car to completely stock position would probably lead to a higher number of potential buyers.

The glass engine cover is only held on by four bolts. No big deal. I would strip the stupid lights out of it and leave it on there.

I just saw a stock cover for sale not too long ago. It could be changed out and the glass one sold on ebay. New the glass ones go for 1800.00

 

So this car sold for $36,101. with 44,xxx miles. Ok, so lets say that car has 80,000 miles... How much is it worth then? $20,000? And what if it is a salvage title with no major and 100,000 miles? Then what??? $7,500 ?

This car has been marketed for long .. almost a year? I offered $39k early fall when they had it at $42k, they did not take it.

This is quite depressing...

 

It sucks that TR prices are so low but it is all relative, you can buy a nice 360 Spyder for 75k now, so how would you expect a 15 yr older car to be worth more than the 30's? Everything has adjusted.

 

GregTe is right...values are relative to each other. We keep hoping that TR values have bottomed out and have nowhere to go but up, I think maybe in a couple of years that will be true. Let's hope so...

 

All said I think it cool car, much cooler at that price... Now he can drive it like he stole it...

Crap! That means I'm "stuck" with a TR for a couple of years. That really SUCKS.

 

The TR market will bottom. There will be 'panic' selling then the cars will go up in value. During the next economy boom I would suspect excellent condition TR's to sell above 200 maybe even 300k. Reason being.... a lot of these 30k$ cars will be purchased used, driven to the point they need service and the owner won't service the car because of the cost. The car will then be pushed off into the weeds or stacked in a barn. Maybe some owners who finally get to buy a Ferrari for 30k will rip the engine apart themselves in an attempt to do their own repairs and quickly see they are way in over their heads, basket up the motor and stack it in a barn or throw it in a hedge row. This will leave VERY few cars still in good running condition and those few cars will be extremely valuable.

This will not happen with 360 or 430's.

IMO the TR is the same caliber as the F40, F50, Enzo, Boxer and 288. Few people 'get it' though because they can only see 3 seconds ahead.

Mark this post and wait 20 years.

 

Was told by an dealer that I trust that wholesale on an early TR that needs belts is $25k right now.

Full retail for a clean and serviced car is ~$50k.
