Thats what I was thinking. :p:p

AS if Jay wants to own a 430 or 458?? :p:p

He is more of a 275 GTB or a 348 TB man if you ask me.:eek:

And we ALL know you dont need "Ferrari tools and diagnostics that plug in that costs $22,000 to work on one of those old rust buckets. :p:p

I have no problem with that.
There are a lot of cars that any one of us have no interest in either.
But why does he not just state that.
I'm sure the 99.99999 percent of the population that will never own/drive or understand the reason for exotic cars would be more than happy to have Leno dis the ferrari.

    $22K is for the SD3
then there are the special tools to work on the car/engine/tranny
then there is the unfixable ECU/TCU/ABS computers once NOS parts are no longer available

You see, Jay wants to continue owning and driving the cars, as original, when they are 50 years old, and by projection, hand them off to the next colelctor, when he is no longer with us, in perfect working order.

He has the in shop tools to take 3D images of and then recast old Bugati parts that have corroded beyond restoration. The recast parts are complete with the text and stampings of the original parts--to the point concourse judges cannot tell.

So, tell me, how would Jay fix a 348 ECU in 2032 to original condition? A F355F1 TCU in 2025? A 458 differential computer in 2044? Its not like the NOS parts will still be sitting on the shelves! This is how electronics are "different" than other parts of the car. Even wiring harnesses can be restored--but electronics?

Most of us face similar perdicaments. Some of the more well to do amongst us, simply own the cars while they are under warrantee and then trade upwards rather continuously. I, personally, have made plans for what to do when the 2.7 ECUs of my F355 go south, and it has nothing to do with finding high $$$ NOS Ferrari parts. Jay is not like that, he wants the cars to remain original in every detail.

By the time the average ECU gets to the point where the actual computer part dies, the parts are no longer made or available on any shelve. And while one can buy a $30K 3D printer to recast various parts to fix mechanical things, this kind of replication technology will NEVER be able to create a functioinal replica of a serious electronic black-box (or blown part thereon).

    Therein lies the difference.

Jay painted himself into a corner long ago with the Ferrari thing. It would be too embarrassing for him to embrace them now. You can't be a big time collector and buy just one car.You have to become a "Ferrari Guy" and it's too late for that. You need better reasons than he gives not to appreciate this marque.

We don't need Jay, he needs us.

    I don't no..........
Jay also has a jet engined computer controlled motorcycle as well.
Where will you get parts for that in the future?
There will always be a source for hi tech electronics......someone will make it...its just going to cost a small fortune...WHICH JAY CAN MORE THAN AFFORD.....he is exceptionally wealthy after all. And again in the same vein......if the concern is the many ecu's on the car....he would just buy them all and store them for the future.
In any case his fleet of cars is stored for the most part.....if you don't use them much-keep them im a bubble per se- not much wear on the ecu's.

Ok, Jay doesn't like fish. He loves beef. Ferraris are like a dolphins to me – much more than a fish. They integrate with them but have their own realm & speak.

I met Jay looking thru car books at the Monterey Historics a few years ago. He is indeed a car guy.

However, he is a fallible human being. to miss the aprreciation of Fcars when he could well afford them says it all. Lambos jut haven't kept page. So his biases have cost him money.

Perhaps money is not his main objective in putting together a car collection. but it is a factor and it is how we keep score.

I am biased but not having Fcars in your collection is a flaw. We are all human. He can afford to be wrong. He is paying the price whether he knows it or not. So be it.

Does his fallibilty effect how you enjoy your Fcar? I don't think so.

The elemental thought , in my mind is that he is not funny, never was , never will be, so I dont really care about him or his ideas. He will try to tell a joke, then repeat himself a few times , then explain the joke, at which point I have had enough and reached for the clicker.. With any kind of luck RENO 911 will be on and I can watch some real comedy..

He keeps talking about this subject bc he is probably asked about it all the time.

He doesn't care to own any Ferraris. I don't care to own a Lambo. Personal preference.

Leno doth protest too much, I think.

I'm thinking he is a closet Ferrari owner. He is way too much of a car guy not to have a few stashed away some where.

He probably wears elaborate disguises as he drives his F50 late at night on back streets. (probably while munching on a fresh bagel) :)

He's a "comedian" who is neither relevant nor funny, and a self-styled "car guy" (not a mechanic, he was a detailer's go-fer) who dismisses Ferraris as irrelevant...

Who can care what he pretends to "think"?

He is only interesting as a psychological case-study in compensatory acquisitive hoarding.

Whether or not you like him as a late night host is immaterial as that's why there are choices on TV.

"self styled car guy" ? - that seems the definition of having enthusiasm for any hobby, just replace "car" with anything people enjoy.

So this is what makes some naysayers/f chat users feel better about themselves, why is passing judgement on Jay Leno and his lack of f car ownership as to some indication as to his qualification of being a true car guy.

It seems his modest collection and activities in the field might make him in an elite group of people that get to enjoy the hobby with very different means than the majority.

I'm suspecting he's not the only one that has that particular manufacturer hole in a large or small collection yet it doesn't indicate any lack of knowledge, commitment or enthusiasm for the hobby...

Seems some people are taking themselves a touch to seriously...
