    A STATEMENT BY AN AERODYNAMICIST.
" Winglets reduce drag due to lift so short winglets help less than short ones.Slap-on hershey bar winglets help less than well designed ones that properly address the complex flow in the winglet-wing junction.SO YOUR MILEAGE WILL VARY. Numbers that are in the public domain on the 737 NG winglets say that they bring about 2-5% fuel burn reduction ,DEPENDING ON WHO IS MAKING THE CLAIM AND THE LENGTH OF MISSION BEING FLOWN. Aviation Partners makes bold claims about the spiroid winglets but they have yet to prove their worth. So as long as you are not wing span constrained it is better to just grow the span."

This person has no profit axe to grind and works only with proven facts. So any talk about winglets or tip devices should address the fact hat earlier winglets were not as efficient as the newer designs and also should take a look at the weight penalty of the paste on variety.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to put winglets on the Camel.

Not to worry! I just happened to be the sole source of and international distributor of " CAMELSPEED". Just contact FEATHER MERCHANT LLC, MSL, VMC INTL. OUR MOTTO IS " FROM THE CONDOR TO YONDER" We deal in nothing but original organic Condor feathers. Our product will definitely make a change in your aeroplane and you can smell the difference.

Well, apparently your aerodynamicist is either a dork or improperly quoted. When he says "...short winglets help less than short ones...," the rest of his discourse is quickly called into question. :)

I made a short typo. What I should have said, in short, was " short winglets help less than LONG ONES." Size does matter.
    I apologize.

LOL! Sorry - just busting your chops. As an amateur physicist, I'm interested in the topic.

Those are very nice-looking planes, particularly with the winglets. Is this the new aviation equivalent of aftermarket Scuderia Shields (which we all know make Ferraris go faster)? :)

    All the best,
    Andrew.

much better than shields. especially at FL250. Useful load went up not down and so did SE engine performance.

    Cheers
