Be kind guys. I know some of you will cringe at the modification, but I love it. I'm the 3rd owner and from what I can tell the original owner had the roof mod done right after bringing over and federalization was completed. I first saw a targa-roofed Boxer in Phoenix at a Barret-Jackson auction back in about 1985 and thought it was the best looking car ever. It was black, and wasn't up on the block, just parked out in the regular lot. Never saw the owner/driver so I couldn't get any info and failed to take any photos. I saw one post of a black targa in this thread... maybe that was it? I was lucky and found mine about 5 years ago up in the Philly area and it's been true love ever since! Looks like a beautiful conversion, How's the body Flex .. Can we see more pics with roof on.. Was it a straman conv./
I didn't take any photos with the top on the day of the first post, but when it was delivered I took several (overcast and threatening to rain, but I had to get some delivery pics!). I got all the federalization paperwork from Amerispec in Connecticut, but the guy I bought it from didn't have any papers on who did the conversion, so I don't know who did it! I haven't tracked the car so I haven't noticed any flex issues on driving, but this is the only Boxer I've ever driven... so I may not know what to look/feel for. Never seen a 'targa' conversion with the top ON. Looks pretty good. To continue thread, I'm not much of a photographer - but to me - a great subject... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
interesting! it looks really great with the top on...i am actually impressed w/ the exterior look. can you photo the detal of the interior latching front fore and aft? can you photograph the roll up window / top seal? as a boxer owner, i am not offended in the conversion...i really like your car!! pcb
I love Boxers in black. It makes an aggressive car look sinister in such a nice way. Yours looks great! With the targa top in place my car, at a quick glance from 20 feet, looks like any other Boxer. Then you notice the line across the middle of the roof and then, when you get closer and look, the line right behind the windshield is noticeable. Pretty cleanly done and unobtrusive really. No other body mods, which I great because I love the original lines. But, I "grew up" on a couple of 308's and really liked the targa open-air feel they gave. I'll take some detail photos of latching areas in the next couple days. The are very similar to a 308 targa. The rear cut is immediately in front of the inside courtesy light unit (no mods to that as far as I can tell). We had a big storm last night, with lots of branches down and damage around our street and repair crews moving in. A large branch fell on the garage across the street, with severe garage and car damage. Whew, dodged that bullet! Two blocks over, an entire tree went over on top of a full 2-car garage, with both cars inside damaged. Again... Whew! More to follow... JSH

My car, a 1983 512 BBi, is S/N ZFFJA09B0000 45275. It was imported to Amerispec Corp. in Danbury, Connecticut new, with a customs report dated May 3, 1983 and when tested for EPA certification on 4/6/83 still only had 88 miles on it. The US EPA letter of compliance certification is dated July 19, 1983. If I'm reading all the paperwork correctly the original owner was William B. Skinner, of Teaneck, NJ. Cheers, Stratton
The top fits in a bag that can be stowed right behind the seats. There are two leather straps to hold the top against the front of the cockpit side of the firewall. It is heavier than a 308 GTS top because it is metal, but not bad. The targa roof fittings are similar to the 308 type of male/female pin/socket in front with a clamp mechanism at the rear of the top just like the 308 targa tops. this car is featured in this month's Auto Italia magazine, apparently fully restored by Foskers-they reckon its worth 140k GBP.
Nice - but the Cavallino is so wrong. I have seen a lot of 365 BB with 4 exhaust pipes. Was that a factory option or are all these later conversions?
To my knowledge all cars were delivered with 6 exhaust pipes. Considering the availability and the cost to replace them a lot of cars were thereafter fitted with 4 end exhaust. Gr. Martin
Here are 2 photos i shot at the NHRA Winternationals around the mid 70's. I was just a punk teenager back then but the blond and Boxer was just a cool shot. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I like this picture of my BB512. Going on the brakes hard at 260KM/h at the end off a runway. Image Unavailable, Please Login
