Mine has endured similar hardship (and more) and she is definitely a keeper. Was a good sport through the Maranello factory tour, the Galleria and the numerous memorabilia shops.

In return we did visit all the cathedrals, museums and boutiques between Firenze and Roma.

I think the harder part is convincing her that I'm worth keeping, to be honest! :D

    You're on your own there.
I will say that a weekend at Como followed by shopping in Milan goes a long way. The memories (and bills) will last a long while.

Latest news, does not sound good for Rome.

F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone has seemingly withdrawn his support for a race around the streets of Rome.

"According to reports by Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, Ecclestone has wrote to the mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, telling him that Italy already has Monza, which is 'untouchable' and would always take precedence. He also added that no one wants another race in Italy, especially as the sport is currently expanding into new regions, with events in the USA and Russia set to take place in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

Maurizio Flammini, the man behind the Rome GP bid, has been planning the event for the last few years and recently he revealed that a date had been pencilled in for 2013, despite local opposition and opposition from both Monza and Ferrari.

Flammini, a former Formula Two front-runner and World Superbike Championship promoter, had been planning to officially announce plans for the Rome GP next Friday, January 21. It is unclear now what will happen, although without Ecclestone’s backing – if the reports are true, his hopes for the street race would appear to be over. "

In that case it is dead. The End.

Funny that Bernie figured that one out just now. Who told him that there was already a second Italian GP? :)

All sounds to me like this was a test balloon, but once they saw the lack of interest from the fans and Ferrari being against it, that was that.

Would have been a nice vacation. Oh well. Lets hope that Austin comes through. No doubt there, right?

There were reports yesterday that Russia is in doubt as well. There are questions about the viability of hosting both the Olympics and F1 in the same year. They're talking postponement but once the momentum is lost it can be tough to resume.

I did think that doing both is a stretch (I also think that Rio doing World Cup and Olympics is an even bigger stretch, but I digress). And losing momentum could be an issue.

However with Putin signing the contract I'm pretty sure Ochi will happen. Maybe in 2015 instead of 2014, but I'm sure it is a done deal.

Or to put it differently: I don't want Renault to waste a perfectly good seat on a lousy driver for years just to NOT get a Russian GP. ;)

IL tax increase is peanuts compared to a Ferrari maintenance bill

We really could close the thread. This is DOA.

One thing to note though, with Italy being told by Bernie that they can only have one F1 event per year, how much longer can Spain get away with two? (Apart from the obvious: "So long as Alonso is racing and pulling the crowds in", of course!).

With more countries wanting to jump on board the F1 bandwagon, Valencia's days have got to be numbered, surely?.

    They are:
Valencia wants to get rid of its GP. Only the contract with Bernie keeps them on the calendar.

    Definition of a crowd:

    1. A large number of persons gathered together; a throng.
    2. The common people; the populace.
    3. A group of people united by a common characteristic, as age, interest, or vocation: the over-30 crowd.
    4. A group of people attending a public function; an audience: The play drew a small but appreciative crowd.
    5. A large number of things positioned or considered together

(I think number 4 covers Me on this one! :) )

As the old saying goes: Two's company, three's a crowd!

( I think the Turkish GP organizers use this one for their race weekend! :p ).

Actually the German alternating GPs do ok probably because of the switching: After MS' departure Hockenheim did really bad but now they are only hit every other year.

Monza OTOH is doing well financially. However they are facing increasing opposition from the locals because of the noise and hoopla. So if the races were held only other year that might actually help for its longtime survival.
Also I believe that the audience for the Rome GP is slightly different as in more touristy. So financially this might be ok for both races as well.
