Thinking of going out to the "Texas Mile" here in March. Basically you have unlimited runs to see how fast you can get up to in one mile. How fast do you think I could get the 360 up to in one mile? I have a tubi and carbon fibre air boxes if that makes any difference! thoughts?
That's a really fun event!!!! I have some tips, if you do decide to go. No idea but you are pretty much terminal velocity....I hit 134MPH fully loaded with spare tires and tools, but got caught in line backup after lunch break and only ran once. As a New Driver you need 'orientation' so going down Friday night is the way the start early on runs Saturday (car has to clear Tech Inspection basically fasten fire extinguisher on street cars).. They have Sunoco 106 octane fuel as well you have to reserve it in advance. Don't ask for a Track Map....they laugh at you........
Would you run the car in your profile picture? Are there any restrictions against running a Spider on the course? If you go, set up an in-car camera so we can all go for the ride too...
yeah, I would run my 360 Spider but only if it is possible to push it to 170 or so. If it is only possible to get it up to 150 or so in one mile, i wont bother
I haven't seen a standing mile quote for a 360. But Road and Track did a standing mile comparison test in 2005. The 400 hp C5 Vette ran 154; the 500 hp Viper ran a hair under 160. <http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/comparison/thunder-road-the-standing-mile/page_2_-_thunder_road-3a_the_standing_mile_-_chevrolet_corvette_page_2> It took my first '77 308 three miles to reach a top speed of 160 on a cool day. At one mile, it was doing around 130. But hey, you won't know if you don't try.
160's sounds about right because a friend of mine did a standing mile event in a Scud and was in the mid 170's. I'm altitude, temperature and conditions can vary the speed a little.
You should run 145-150 if conditions are good. I have run the TX mile since they started, there was 25 cars and I went 191 in my Viper. Since then, its grown like crazy and now the event sells out in the first day. I have run 246.3 in my Supra there. Jay and Shannon put on a great event. Go have fun... SW
sounds fun! I think I should go into it with a goal of 160mph. I assume you can take people to ride with you if you wanted? Might be a fun time for them.
Might be more fun to do two runs with a cute chick passenger- one with the top up and one with the top down... may as well try one run with the convertible closed and one with the convertible open as well while you're at it. I guess if you want to be very percise in your experiment, do four runs with all variations top up convertible up, top down convertible up, top up convertible top up convertible down top down convertible down I'm sorry couldn't resist on a Friday
A fun event I've done many times, but it is filling very fast these days. You should probably make plans for the new May event or October. I just got a 360 10 days ago and was wondering the same thing about one mile speed. For reference, my e39 M5 ran 151 with the same horsepower as the 360, but more weight and probably worse aerodynamics. My ancient Mustang managed 164 in October, its brick-like aero somewhat overcome by 467 rwhp. It's a great car show as well. Enjoy.
I'm bringing a Ferrari F430 Spyder and a Mercedes SL65 AMG. I'm curious to see how the F430 does compared to the Gallardo SE. Last year my Gallardo ran 159.7 mph (both are stock for now). I'm hoping the SL65 will hit 178-180....... See you there!
I was also considering going... my buddy has a 900+ hp Z-28 he takes to the event. I want to take my new 360 too.
I think your car would go faster if you let me drive it seeing as how I only weigh about 100 lbs. As far as needing an invite, I could probably figure that out too.
It is open to anyone, but it fills up very fast once they open registration. I heard that it was full in only 6 hours for this event. That is not to say that they might not give "special" consideration to those who have been regulars. They have added a third event for 2011 - Memorial Day weekend. A good spectator event, even if you don't run.
I dont think so, You just have to register really fast because they sell all the spots in like 4 hours after sign up opens. I am going to the march event if I can sign up quick enough!
246.3 Man that is awesome!, I race a lot, cars and bikes but that is just too fast for me. Streetking is a good nick name for you, I see you on other forums and I thought it was because of all your cars which it may be, but anyone who can pilot a Supra to 246 and live to tell about it, man thats impressive to me, a gust of wind or a slight driver error and its all over at that speed.
