Yeah, but WHY? They have Droid-2 and Droid-X... WAY better phones. No idea what "f-up" you mean....

Mine works FLAWLESSLY and is way better than an iPhone, IMO.

Why would you want an Iphone? It's been like the same thing since the day it came out ages ago. It couldn't even run multiple apps til recently, lol. Every other smartphone on the market has been doing it for years pretty much.

If you don't want to be able to customize your phone and want something nice and shiny, I guess I can see why you want an Apple product...

without getting into which one is better ... we know Android is ;-)

word is that if it does happen a CDMA iPhone won't be out until late Q1 next year, they usually do when Stevie does one of his nicely pre-cooked presentations in the Spring and/or Fall

Apple is having a press conference with Steve on 1-11-11 as well. They have also canceled vacation days for employees at Apple stores at the end of 1/11. Which many speculate would mean the release date of the phone and all hands on deck for the sales.

It’s official: Verizon gets the iPhone
    By Ben Patterson

Well, that's that. After more than three years of rumors, speculation, and plain old wishful thinking, Verizon Wireless finally announced Tuesday that it will soon be offering its own version of the iPhone, bringing AT&T's long monopoly on the wildly popular handset to an end.

The long-expected news came at a packed press conference at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, just a couple of days after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas wrapped up.

Verizon's jubilant CEO, Lowell McAdam, was joined onstage by Apple COO Tim Cook (no sign of Steve Jobs, by the way) and Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Meade. McAdam confirmed that discussions to bring the iPhone to Verizon began as early as 2008.

The iPhone 4 will become available for pre-order for existing Verizon subscribers on February 3, with general availability to begin on February 10.

The 16GB version of the iPhone will sell for $199, with the 32GB to cost $299—both with a two-year contract. Details on data plans would be released in a future announcement, Meade and Cook said.

And in case you were wondering, no—the Verizon iPhone will not run on the carrier's new 4G LTE network. Instead, it will get 3G data from Verizon's existing EV-DO network.

So, why no LTE on Verizon's first iPhone? Because adding support for the new 4G network would force design changes in the iPhone 4 design, said Cook, and Verizon customers "want the iPhone 4 now."

A nice consolation prize, however, will come in the form of the iPhone 4's personal hotspot abilities, which will allow the handset to share its 3G connection with up to five other nearby Wi-Fi devices (probably for an extra fee).

I'm heading into the demo area to check out the new iPhone—which, by the way, looks almost precisely the same as the iPhone 4 on AT&T, so don't expect any earth-shattering revelations. Stay tuned.

The festivities got off to an awkward start as some crazy fellow in the audience began hollering, ahhh ... some profanity-laced words of excitement before the event had begun. Startled reporters and bloggers (myself included) slowly began chuckling once they recognized the culprit: John Oliver from "The Daily Show.

By snagging its own version of the iPhone at long last, Verizon puts to an end AT&T's three-and-a-half year monopoly on the iPhone. While AT&T managed to win millions of new subscribers thanks to the iPhone, its reputation took a shellacking as its network buckled under the strain, with users complaining bitterly of spotty connections and dropped calls.

AT&T is putting on a brave face in the wake of Verizon's coup, with the carrier's PR manager claiming that AT&T has the fastest data network in the U.S. and warning iPhone users who defect to get "ready for life in the slow lane."

The reality, however, is that AT&T is facing the prospect of losing a good-sized chunk of frustrated iPhone users to Verizon, which pummeled AT&T more than a year ago with those devastating "there's a map for that" ads.

And during Tuesday's event, Verizon Wireless' Dan Meade went to great pains to emphasize that iPhone users will have an "absolutely terrific" experience on Verizon's network.

The new Verizon i-Phone is slightly different from the AT&T version and existing cases won't fit the new version.
It seems that they've changed the rim configuration and the new position for the ring on/off switch has been moved.
No one has said anything yet but I suspect that this is a redesign to fix the antenna problem. On the new phone the top edge no longer extends down the side so the chance of shorting the antenna while holding it is reduced.

    Hmm.

Obviously, there will be a ton of customers, both new and 'switchers' who will be using the iPhone on Verizon's network. Should be a win for AT&T users too, as the decreased network demands should free traffic a bit.

It's really going to be interesting as G4 becomes more available. While the Droid is a very capable product, it is ultimately a good copy of an iPhone. Will both cell hardware and google software developers be able to continually advance, or will they always be in catch-up mode? Time will tell.

I fail to see where android is a copy of iOS.

I do not have an iphone but I do have an ipad (same os) and I have an android phone (droid x) and tablet (samsung Tab)

I would take my android devices any day over an iOS device, and I do my ipad is at home all the time :)

Also check out the newest version of android 3.0 just because the iPhone was the first mainstream touch screen phone does not mean that everyone else is playing catch up.

You can't take it internationally as it is not a GSM phone. Deal killer for me. And what's this about no simultaneous voice and data? I can't stand At&t and the drop calls and poor reception is everyday, but I need another choice before switching.

Agreed - not sure why they didn't make it a global phone. I really can't see a need for voice and data though.

They considered making it LTE compatible but the current LTE chips don't work with the current phone design. CDMA was their best choice to get the phone on their network ASAP.

I have had a decent AT&T experience over the last several years since the bought Cingular (I was a Cing customer) but have wanted the iPhone 4 BAD! Just didn't want to have to spend so much each month for the minimum plan... With competition I am hoping AT&T will lower the cost of plan entry for the iPhone...then I will get a new one! YEA! Or if Verizon comes in with a nice cheaper plan I'll get a Verizon phone!

I'd be willing to bet it had more to do with Jobs not allowing Verizon to modify anything so that it would work.

It just so happens that my "new every 2" is up next month. I called to see what is being offered for the I-Phone, and learned I would get a whole $30 credit towards it. Wow, that's some appreciation for customer loyalty. When my wife's "new every 2" was up, the HTC Incredible had just come out, and she was able to get it for $50.

I bet AT&T will have some nice offering to coincide with Verizon's launch of the I-Phone. Maybe it's time to shop around.

The voice and data issue is the deal breaker for me. It would be a daily issue. All the time, 'oh, let me look that up' (place call on speaker and looks up location/email/sending a contact/taking a picture and sending it to someone while I'm on the call). My understanding is this will not be possible for the first release of the Verizon iPhone.

It definitely won't be possible on Verizon's CDMA network.
