When are "THEY" going to invent a system where I can change the color of my car with the flip of a switch?

 

I bought my scud in April. Paid a lot at that time and even more relative to today's prices. Yet, the funny thing is that it seems the real trading is taking place relatively close to April prices. That's my impression anyway. Anomalies of course exist and did so in April as well. Nevertheless, i took Skier's advice and bought the car i liked.

I have a good friend sold his 2008 scud, aprox 1000 mi. red/blk to a local NY area dealer for $180,000. TRUE.

Sorry, but that is the true state supply and demand in this economic situation. Granted this is not the norm. This was aprox. one month ago.

 

So market price story from Chicago. Guy wants 458, asks to trade in Scud. Dealer calls every wholesaler around the country. The best number they can get is $165K. This is fresh data. Eeks.

 

No deal on my latest offer. Salesman says he would time to work on it. I'm a bit surprised since my offer was very close to asking. So I am moving on. Need a contact for Ferrari of San Diego please.

 

Hard to assess as a data point without more details. Color, mileage, major options (or omissions)?

 

Yes true wholesale when he got rid of it. What did the dealer ask for it? He sold because he had to or wanted to right away otherwise he would have listed it for more money and waited.


I can see dealers paying 165k on them but they are still in business and will still ask north of 200k.

Wholesale has nothing to do with end users guys. Does everyone that owns a business sell there 180k worth of merchandise for 180k or do they mark it up?
Sales guys and rents need to be paid. Car dealers aren't in it to be cool. They are in it to profit.

 

I really don't get it. Why in the heck would anyone trade their car in for $165-$170 when I'm sure there are all kinds of buyers at that price +10K. If I could pick up a no stories Scud in the right color for $165-$175 I would buy it NOW. Sales guys and rents need to be paid, but offering $165 and listing for north of $200K is just crazy.

Because when it comes to Ferrari, the number of people who have the stones to actually write the check for one is a small fraction when compared to the number of lookie loos who are "about to buy" one. What's your time worth? (most Ferrari owners' time is expensive) -- it might not be worth your effort to sort the serious from the spectators. Dealers are much better equipped to turn lookers into buyers and deserve to get paid for doing so....

 

BR- Ice is correct. Ferrari buyers are a pain in the posterior. Plus you have to remember, in many states (not California of course, they are perennially screwed), you pay taxes only on the difference between price and trade-in. So if your taxes are 5%, a $170K trade is $8500 less taxes you pay. 8% and it is $13,600.

Taz is correct in our state it's over 9% sales tax savings on your trade in which would equate to closer to 17k above your trade in value.

Again 165k trade in and selling for 200k is only 20% markup on investment. That truly isn't a lot. Rents and overhead need to be paid. Making 10k is nothing and definitely not worth it. If I owned the dealership I'd just pass all together if the numbers were that close.


BTW TGood my CS and Scud on the right are Carrara White cars. My 430 spider on the left is Bianco Avus as shown better in the side shot you have of it in your post above.

Frankly, I would not hesitate to trade in at a dealer at a cost of +10K (as I have done in the past). Considering what my time is worth, I have no interest what-so-ever in dealing with a bunch of tire kickers. Its basic economics, and the dealer is the cheaper alternative in my case.

I've long admired your car choices especially with the CS, don't mind me posting the cars.

 

Scud's are plentiful right now. Most dealers have no interest in buying a Scud for inventory for that reason. Supply is way more than demand. Simple economics therefore point to ongoing depreciation. Most Scud's currently on authorized dealer lots are consigned, meaning they have very little incentive to sell. Unless the owner is motivated by an incoming 458 or other car, it's hard to get to a true transaction price via the dealer.
BTW, it seems that the best asking prices seem to be in the midwest. Lake Forrest and Continental in Illinois both have Scud's where the asking prices are at or below $200K. Good luck.

Actual color is as listed Carrara White spelled differently from the actual car. As it states on the Ferrari color code on the bonnet Porsche LB9

Agreed, sold my 360 Spider to a dealer for easily $10k less than what I could've "held" out for....in the end the few tire kickers I did speak with had no means to really pay for the car, and one wanted to trade +cash. The day after that I called my dealer buddy and moved it.
