Pat your head and bleed it rear to front... when all else fails, that will work
Well, after wearing out my leg, Lorri's leg, Dylan's leg, and Ernie's leg, I finally decided that something is wrong with the clutch hydraulic system. No fluid under the bellhousing, so it must be the clutch pump. Took it off, took it apart, and sure enough, the piston was stuck in the cylinder. Musta picked up some crud (that's a highly technical term that I don't have enough time to explain right now) during the bleeding process and got stuck. The bore looks good, but as long as it's off, I think I'll rebuild it. Anybody know a cross-reference for the rubbers, or am I gonna have to replace some perfectly good parts with a complete assembly?
Good to hear Bruce. So are you gonna try to use the existing parts, just clean 'em up, or are you gonna get new guts for it? I vote try and source the guts.
I'm gonna try to rebuild it if I can source parts-looks like it may be an Alfa piece, but hoping somebody will chime in. Reread the last two sentences of my post!
If you come up short Bruce, there are a number of complete pedal boxes out in the hay barn I can have a look at. I can almost remember seeing a new one in the loft box we were looking in.
My friend Parsam Minasian at International Auto Body (310) 679-4116 did a great job restoring the paper-thin fiberglass bumper. When we bought the car, Dave warned me "the front bumper is just tape and foam". He wasn't exaggerating. Not concours, but VERY well done. Note that I haven't adjusted it yet. Congrats Bruce and crew......be sure to keep the garage door open while playing...a CO buzzz can damage the brain cells.
Too late. This thing produces so much HC's we are high every time we fire the bi.tch up! Who needs a fattie?!
Finally got the clutch pump rebuilt. Good as new for $30. Drove it out of the garage today! Sounds great between the buildings of my townhouse complex. The temptation was huge to wake up the neighborhood and lay down a couple of black stripes in the driveway. It must have a very light flywheel in it (welded?). Of course, the state of tune of the motor is very questionable. Next project is having it tuned up, and Vince to work on the cosmetics. Where can we take it (within an hour or so from the south bay) to do a little shakedown? I'd really like to get the feel of it before taking it to the track? Maybe just put the plates off the street car and drive it down PCH? I think it's time to schedule a track day. Gotta be tuned up for the Inaugural GFRT Grand Prix and Lying Event Sponsored by Geritol and Red Bull!
